For the overall picture I just saw that there is a new arena being built in the area and the Coastal Carolina will be a main tenant for basketball

We play on campus every year and I can tell you the coaches are great people, the players are super kids and the facilites are great and set to be upgraded shortly-- also have a spanking brand new football on campus

If you have a chance to attend Coastal and play baseball-- do it !!!!!
BigGuy & ClevelandDad,

We have heard nothing but positive things from pro scouts, former traveling team coaches, D1 coaches, and former players. We even got a sincere endorsement from a former player that speaks volumes. If you want to get the skinny on a program just speak to a former player. I have yet to hear anything negative. My son has also signed and will enter Coastal in the fall. BigGuy, I believe we are just about neighbors. I’m looking forward to meeting both of you. One of the things Gilmore is most proud of is the team’s average GPA, 3.0. Class act all the way.

We just feel lucky to have the opportunity to be part of this program!

Go Chanticleers, Omaha or bust!
Smokey,

I definately look forward to meeting you and BigGuy. You said it much better than me and with more enthusiasm. Trust me, we are thrilled beyond belief about the opportunity down there. With respect to players, we got to talk to many current players last summer and we were blown away. The most respectful young men you will ever meet! I told Coach Gilmore if those are the types of players you are recruiting then there was only one place for us. Thanks for sharing that information and it supports exactly what I have been hearing all along. Finally, there is a definate feeling of Omaha down there - they have been building towards one goal now for many years and you can sense the program is taking off.
Very intersting that there are 3 kids from this website attending Coastal. My son is a Junior in High School and is being recruited by them. We did an informal visit on our way up to a Junior Day at UNC, and really liked the coaches at Coastal and the kids we met. The coaches were no-nonsense straight forward gentlemen who seem to have a great investment in the future and run a very classy organization. Please keep me posted as your kids start school as Coastal is very high on my son's priority list and he will probably come for an official visit this Fall.(If he continues to pitch well this summer and they are still intersted!!)
Thanks TPM Smile Also, congrats to your son who has settled in nicely at Clemson and is having a fine season. I was listening to the Coastal Clemson game early in the season and was surprised when they brought your son into such a pressure-packed, close-scoring game (considering he was a freshman). He pitched outstanding in that game which Coastal managed to squeek out in the end. Clemson got their revenge however when Coastal played two with them later in the season.
My son played in tournaments there in 2003 & 2004, excellent facility since they took down the cinderblock wall surrounding the outfield after the 2003 season.

Umbrellas are a must for the South Carolina sun especially if you've got Irish in you, like me.

The coaches have a great reputation there.

10 minutes from the ocean !

Have not heard one negative thing about the coaching staff. I can also tell you that the players are pretty much kept in line, no bad words exchanged with the Clemson players, unlike on other occassions with other teams.
Are you sure you are not thinking about someone else?
Head Coaches do have a tendency to lose it once in a while, it depends on how many times a season they decide to "lose it".
This will be out third year playing at Coastal in August and I have dealt with Coach Gilmore and his staff all the times we were there.

I have never found them to be anything but classy gentlemen and the players who work the event are also fine young men--nothing but gentlemen

I also have never heard this about the Coastal StaffI even had a player who was headed their way and changed his mind at the 11th our and Coach Gilmore held no malice

They are first rate in my book

I don't know the coaches at Coastal, but I find it hard to believe that hardly anyone would choose Liberty over Coastal. First you have Lynchburg (where I grew up). It is not anything close to a great college town, as opposed to Coastal and Myrtle Beach. And then you have Liberty, which is ideal for a select few, but only a very, very select few. I personally would take a crazy coach any day over the entire environment at Liberty.
As far as recruiting - I can assure you that Coastal Carolina does not compete with Liberty for players.

Coastal Carolina is a top 25 team in the nation.
And they are - IMO - going to stay in that area for a long time.
They compete with some very prominent baseball schools in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast for recruits.

No knock on Liberty - but you are talking about two different planets when it comes to the two schools in regards to baseball recruiting.
Coastal does recruit many jucos, and over the summer will get transfers from other D-1s that are not happy where they are. But, it is true, for the most part, the best players play. One true freshman did play this year, and he won that spot over a juco transfer. However, many freshman do leave, as well as sophomores and juniors due to lack of playing time.
