My son is a HS senior this year. He has been visiting community colleges and meeting with coaches. He has been made an offer by one school thus far. The coach asked that he go ahead and fill out a scholarship form that he would hold onto when/if he made a decision. If he decided yes, he would turn the paperwork in to the appropriate people at the school. My son likes the school. The coach asked that my son let him know in a couple of weeks.  Since touring other CC's, he has come upon another school that he feels that he would consider his top choice. He has worked out for the coach. He received a good feeling from the coach but was told that the coaches wanted to see him in game action during his HS season. The coaches time availability to view him would not be for a month or two. Thus, IF an offer did come from school number two, it would be down the road.

What is the best way of handling this situation? What if school #1 was accepted and school #2 came through with an offer in a couple of months? Is my son on the hook to school #1? Is it a situation where he better accept school #1 while the offer is out there since he does like it? Is there a possible way of "pushing off" school #1 to give time to school #2 or any other possible offers that might come his way during the HS season?

New to this and am not sure how to handle it. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

KK, I'm not sure how different things may be in your area, but I think, generally, JC's are fully aware that they are at the bottom of the feeding chain and are accustomed to late decisions.  So, I don't think it would be a huge problem if your son didn't fully commit for another month or two until after coach #2 saw him play and there was follow-up dialog.

Meanwhile, son can do more research on both and can do any preliminary paperwork, etc. so that he is positioned well to go either direction.  If coach checks in, son could tell him that he is proceeding as if he will be attending but there is another school or two that he is in communication with that he would like to fully explore.
