This should be an exciting and interesting season for local players at the college level. I have seen names (Seniors) that played in my eldest class of 03
and names (Freshman) that my youngest played last
year in the Beach District. Best of Luck to all.

After dropping three straight to #3 ranked (Div II)
Southern Florida, Western Florida (10-3) has won 10 straight, including a just completed weekend sweep of #29 ranked Quincy (ILL). In defense of Quincy (0-4); these were the first games of the year played.

Phil Lawhorn Salem 03 grad, is the Argonaut's Closer. In his first appearance of relief, he pitched 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with a strikeout; come to find out he was playing with a case of bronchitis . Since his initial outing he has made four appearances (all in relief); going
five innings winning his first game and picking up his first save. He has allowed 0 runs with 1 hit (single)6 K's; 0 BB with five assist (comebackers).

Hey Charlie- saw the game was cancelled- craig came home saturday night and said the only place there isnt any ice is on the roads. I verified this when I looked in the back of his truck and there was 4". Well Little Craig is finally a senior and I guess its all over for me and the baseball gig after this spring- the little one is going to VMI and not playing anymore either. Been a good run though and am really enjoying seeing his former teammates and opponants doing so well. Not saying negative against anyone but that local class (Tidewater) between 2002 and 2004 was really an awesome group. I will(already am ) following everyone that I know kids and schools again- good luck all- Craig-
Go Eagles-
This is definitely weird; heading out the door for the three hour trip, without extra socks, 3 layers of shirts/coats/etc., extra sweatshirt, ear thingees, handwarmers, and without the propane heater (which works great by the way), with Accuweather saying it'll be mid-50's at game time.

I could get used to this.
Salisbury v. CNU, 2:00 in the cozy sun. Amen!

Glad to hear your son is doing well-- at least I thought Phil was your son (memory fails me though sometimes), remember when he was heading to LSU, then not.

Actually I am the rare alum of UWF, did they ever get a football team?

Good luck and keep us posted.

mrmom,
You are correct, he is my eldest and my youngest is a sophmore (09) at Landstown.

Phil fell a couple classes shy of eligibility for enrollment at LSU last year Frown, and stayed at PJC
to complete his associates degree; he did not play ball. It actually may work out better for him attending UWF (DII); easier to maintain his last year of eligibility.

The new Polls were released today; UWF has moved into the top 30 coming in at #24, ironically that is his uniform number. I am impressed with UWF's head coach, Jeff Jeffcoat. This is his second year, last years team just missed reaching the DII College World Series, after beating a couple topped ranked teams losing in the semifinal game.

That #24 ranking will be tested this weekend when they face #5 Delta State, whom last season was at #1.

To my knowledge, UWF has notfielded a football team, however last year Phil did play with a group
of guys from both PJC and UWF which competed and won some Collegiate Intramural Flag Football Championship.

Did UWF have the Boardwalk, with Beach row huts when you attended? Inside has a bar, A/C and Closed Circuit television to watch the game.

Very unique, presenting a fun perspective for fans.
JT,

Not exactly the .467 JT, Jr. is hitting (), but enough to hang around the lineup and hopefully keep earning a bit of time here and there. Son #2 is having to learn to deal with some sitting, a place none of the college players ever were in high school, and that too is an adjustment; you don't want them to lose the burning drive to be in every inning of every game, but you also want them to be the best teammate they can be as part of the most important aspect in all of this-team success. He's learning. (Now if the momma's could only get a handle on that too. Roll Eyes)
Lawman,

I'm afraid they didn't even have running water when i attended but classes were held in hutsSmile. They only had a golf team and tennis team when I was there. They had a basketball team for years but discontinued when i was there and there wasn't a baseball team at all.

I do share one thing in common with your son though. I played on a fla. championship flag football team also!!!

It amazes me because that town loves football - never could figure that out.

Good luck to him. Now I have another kid to keep tabs onSmile
You tell 'em hokieone. I mean, HS ball hasn't even started. The beginning of the college season is the only thing that has this forum receiving post. By the way, wait till you son moves on to the professional ranks. You can get pretty out of touch with whats going on. Many of these kids we've been reading about for years. It' good reading.

And you were right about Cheryl Ladd. I think you must have been on my hall at VT. I saw her poster more than once.

Lynchburg did manage to break through with three runs off of Bishop reliever Doug Roenker in the seventh. A lead-off single by Jon Sewell and a walk to second basemen Kyle Bradley set the stage for a bases-clearing triple by Jeff Taylor. Taylor later scored on a Cameron Grant double to right. The Hornets, however, would get no closer than 9-3.

It looks like there were some positives from yesterday's game Smile

BTW - agree with hokie - Cheryl Ladd was great.

JT....I haven't been part of a thread like this since my 04 beach days...Isn't this fun...I know you guys never got to do this to date we have 67 replies...3017 reviews...wow. Great to see the early old time posters still piping up with support for everyone.

As a former FC Patriot supporter....now a broke H-SC Tiger supporter...boy college is expensive.....but I still love it...what a great game.

I'll be heading to Sydneyville tomorrow...#10 Cortland St @ 3:00 pm..Rutgers-Camden on Sat and Richard Stockton on Sunday....man I miss playing those Cox Falcons....I'd be talking smack on this board tonight if we were.

Good luck in the games...
...I hope LadyNmom is able to make it up for them. Should be decent weather (relative to what we had).

BTW...I see you guys are playing Roanoke at Jefferson Forest MS. What's with that? I know the coach at JF (the HS plays at the MS) has two boys playing for RC, but the ball will be flying out of that place.
Fc v dad.....if possible send good wishes to #14 if he should make it to the plate.....thank you kindly....keep warm....see you Sunday....and my man has made it as far as Odessa, TX today....wish I could say he's anxious to get to his new home here in NC.....but the reality of the situation is......he's anxious to see son's swing....critique, correct, etc...

.....baseball Dad's.....enough said!

JT, "Armor getting Hammered"..that's great.

Now about this weekend weather, we have cold and windy, then less cold but windier, then the icing on the cake, literally, is freezing rain on Sunday. Maybe the wise heads at Averett and CNU are looking and will play a DH on Saturday, so we can get out of there before the ice man cometh.

Nah, makes too much sense....

I was wondering if anyone picked up on the obvious pun, there. Good luck in getting your games in. We're in the same boat on Sunday, too. I was hoping they would travel down a day early and play one today and two tomorrow. No such luck.

And to think we could have had a "Where's Tom" thread going like we had for you and Brian...
...amazing how he couldn't like without you 'til March got here.

USA South on the ball; all weekend games changed to a Saturday DH, to beat the coming Sunday storm system. Only problem is now we have to get to Danville by 11:00 tomorrow morning.

CNU beat Southern Virginia University, 16-3, or something like that, today. SVU asked to stop the game after 7 innings, normally understandable, except I had both my sons in a college infield together for the first time, which would've been nice if it lasted more than an inning. Oh well, lots of digital photos...
Should I let husband know that in all probability games will be cancelled tomorrow? He is driving across country (in Georgia now) hoping to make it for tomorrow's games......nah, think I'll wait....

....and as for today's games....well son is trying to keep track, not from the bench, but rather traffic school....

One good thing, we'll all be together as a family again....and there should be a lot more baseball games!

Good luck to everyone today......especailly HSC....who is on a roll.....GO TIGERS!!!!

Hampden Sydney took one on the nose from #6 Cortland St 13-6. The boys from NY can play this game. They jump out to a 9-0 lead after 3 innings and they hit the ball from top to bottom of the line up. The boys from Sydney are not going to lay down...On Friday H-SC came back from a 9-5 deficient against Rutgers-Camden to win 13-10 and fought back to cut the lead against Cortland to 9-7 after 6th but Cortland brought in a crafty lefty that just painted the corners..7, 8 and 9. Without a doubt the most athletic team we have seen this year....53 degrees...no wind...gorgeous day and I think I got sunburned. All games for tomorrow were canceld so the boys from the north can head home before the rain/snow storm arrives in their area.

....congratulations to your player Fc v dad....while mine was taking notes in traffic school....I understand yours was hammering the ball....way to go Kev!

....and no JT....he got it in VA...coming back from a concert with his SBC sweetie...said it was 35 mph going up the hill... at the top it changed to 25 mph with the cop parked 15 to 20 yards from the sign.... Hope he's learned a lesson....but I said that the last ticket he got...before this one...

Thank you CD and JT...we hope the tide has turned!
