Just curious...what is everbodys take on posting weekly topics on college baseball instead of beating this one to death...example...during my HS days I would start a new topic each Sunday night...I or whom ever would name the topic....College Games - 2/26 thru 3/3. I would then post our weekly schedule. Everyone else would also post their schedule.

Hampden-Sydney
wed 2/28 @ St Marys
sat 3/2 home vs Va Wesleyan (DH)...1st ODAC contest

Each night after the game I would post info on the contest...This format appeared to work ok during my HS days....what everybody's take on this..or should we just stay on this topic the entire year.

fc v dad....go Tigers

Whew, busy week.

Upon completion of a weekend series with #5 ranked Delta State, UWF took 2 of 3 games and found themselves moving up 10 spots to a #14 Ranking.

After dropping Friday nights game 10-1, UWF won on Saturday 2-1; Phil Lawhorn (Salem/03) pitched 1.2
innings recording four strikeouts. His slider was breaking a little extra (warmer weather).

Sundays game, he pitched 2.0 innings. He struggled a-little, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, but he had problems with his two-seamer; too much movement.
After allowing two hits and no runs in the 8th (one was erased by a double-play ball); he hit the first batter to lead-off the ninth. With two outs and runner on 2nd; he hit his second batter (#3 hitter)
of the inning with a subsequent double to plate two-runs. Trailing by two in the bottom of the ninth, UWF scored three runs giving him his 2nd win of the season (2-0), whew.

He pitched in the ninth on Monday, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit recording his 3rd save of the year. A 6 run outburst on Tuesday in the 8th meant a night off.

Last night, Wednesday pitched a perfect ninth, striking out the side (2nd time this season) in the first game of double-header. Pitcher in the 2nd game pitched a complete game four-hit shutout. UWF is now 16-4.

On the season, Phil has appeared in 9 games, 12.2 IP, 2-0 with 4 saves, 2.84 ERA, OP BA .209 (R/.171)
15 K's with 3BB (1 Int); IMO,that last stat (K to BB ratio) is the most important. Whew, busy week.

Redbird5 is keeping us abreast of the VWC season; can't wait to hear more on how the area players are doing at ODU. driller, last I heard, Brooke was seeing some PT. I always, enjoyed watching him play the game.

chesapeakebaseball and valefty44, can't wait to hear how your players are doing at the next level.

I had intentionally delayed my reply in order that others would see Towny's post. One awesome individual whom I have had the pleasure to know.
He is one of the primary reason, if not THE, that scouts are finding high-caliber ballplayers from our area. My oldest (Phil) first AAU (U11) team was as a VA BLASTER.

BobbleheadDoll,
I notice your location is listed as Canada. When my son was at PJC, there were several Canadians on the team and the coaches were bringing in several players from your neck of the woods.

Like California and Texas, Florida is a Region (8) unto itself at the Junior College level. The competetion is very strong, PJC is in the Panhandle Conference. As you probably know, many players drafted out of High School choose this route to enhance their draft slot. Some of the strong teams in this conference are Chippola and Tallahasse Community College. When my son attended PJC as a Freshman in 04; PJC won their First State Championship.

Some of the pro's of attending a JC, other than what I have previously mentioned is the oppourtunity to see immediate playing time. Additionaly, you are playing amongst your peers.

The reason my son chose PJC is two-fold; he had a comparable offer to play at Chipolla, but when we sat down in the coaches office we noticed his roster displayed on a dry-erase board. The roster was filled with drafted players (15-20). He wanted a shot to be a positional player (SS/2b). At PJC, there was only three previously drafted players.
His pitching prowess filled the teams need as a Closer and thus ended any chance of playing full-time as a positional player. Note: He was practicing at 2b and hurt himself going after a foul ball behind first base; his coached stated "phil, you play too **** hard on every play".
He was allowed to practice at SS his sophmore year and a couple players stated that he should of been their starter all along.

Oh yeah the second reason, Pensacola's white sandy beaches. IMO, this may not of been the best of reasons.

My advice is find the right-fit and look hard at the Academics; have a plan. Best of luck and let us know when you decide.
