Great game, I am thinking maybe Standford's kathy helped guide that ball foul?

Win or lose, I hope every team is having the time of their lives.

BTW if anyone noticed Mike Martin not coming out to shake hands with Jim Morris, they have a dislike for each other that dates back to some scandal that UM was caught stealing FSU signs.

Who says these things only happens in football?

This may be a dumb question, but I thought coaches were always trying to steal signs. What's the big deal?

I think it has something to do with the way they were being stolen.

very true, but UM used a sophisticated video setup & speculation was they had the (dugout) audio too

hence some tension & hard feelings

I may not be entirely accurate on recounting this, but as I remember:

There is a parkig deck behind right field at Miami. Miami was accused or caught, blocking off one level of the parking deck, had a person with a telescope in the parking deck stealing signs and sending them to the dugout via walkie talkie, and the dugout inturn relayed the pitch to the batter.

After reading some blogs attacking Coach Martin for a lack of class...I can now certainly understand him not wanting to shake hands.

The whole thing sounds so crazy to me, if you've ever been to UM field, the parking lot is so far from the field it's ridiculous to see, even with a high powered telescope. JMO.
However, the act was supposed to have been found out by MM with other AC coaches following in complaint. I think it was about 4-5 years ago before they joined the ACC. It was that same year, I think, that UM was accepted into the conference (but not joining the ACC yet) who had just lost 2 scholarships for recruiting violations. The ACC coaches didn't want a team that had been caught cheating into their conference.

Regardless, yesterday's game was played on the bigger stage, and not knowing the situation, it didn't look good for MM or the conference. He just looked like a sore loser and personally I have seen it myself, on several occassions, from both of them.

Crazy stuff!

Incredible comeback. I would call to question why Coach Graham tried to get through 3 innings with their closer, when the game winning double came, St. Claire was close to 70 pitches, likely 30 more than he had been accustomed to throwing in any other game this season.

Can Fresno State actually win? It would be one heck of a story...I actually thought they'd lose last night vs. NC. 2 guys getting picked off of first base- this is the World Series, gotta be more careful. I just thought it would come back to haunt them. I got to admit, I'd like to see Fresno go all the way.

Yes. That is all they do is win. They won the toughest regional and beat Arizona State on the road and now Rice and UNC. They look like they are getting contributions from every guy on that team. Of all the great teams that are at Omaha this year, they appear to be playing the most cohesively as a team. In other words, the power of the collective group is greater than the individual parts. I love the fact that these games are not played on paper because the best "teams" are in fact winning. Georgia and LSU also seem to have the team mojo going as well.

I agree, success depends on the team as an entire collective group, not one or two, or three individuals.

This is why the CWS is so special. Team dynamics plays a huge part in the outcome.

Whole lot of baseball to be played yet, it's been a great series. JMO.

Ask the Boston Celtics with regard to team dynamics---they made the ego aspect disappear

I am a huge fan of Georgia for the reason that you post CD. They're truly a "team" and have demonstrated that before the tournament in games I've watched. I agree about LSU and really appreciate the attitude their coach seems to bring to the field.

I have followed NC closely and kept expecting them to begin to dominate the game last night against Fresno and they never did. I'll admit I was very shocked by how well Fresno State played although I have never seen them play before the tourney - it was a shocker for me.

You just knew after getting out of the jam in the 8th the Heels were going to make them pay. Both of my picks are now eliminated! (FSU and LSU) Oh well, great game!

What an exciting finish to a game! I like LSU, but I can't help but feel NC is due this year. Regardless, that was a beautiful thing to see! Congrats NC!

That was just awesome! Yes, they DID make them pay. Alex White gets the job done with great help from his teammates (entire team effort always helps).

I was afraid that the delay would hurt UNC, need our final ACC team to hang in there!

another impressive outing by Georgia today beating a talented Stanford squad. Congrats to the Diamond Dawgs. The bats were strong today, and as they have all year their pitching has been superb ! 2 more games to go !

Boy have I been impressed with Fresno States team. They are a great collection of gritty hard nosed baseball players. And they are very talented. It has been a war both times out and I think its going to be another hard fought game.

OK lets wager. I will send you a large bag of Southerns peanuts "they are very good" and 5 lbs of our best Bar B Que. If the Bulldogs win. Now what are you going to send me if the Tar Heels win?

I predict a very close game and without a doubt the team that scores the most runs will win!!!

Coach May - I agree with your take 100%. Other than Chad Flack's homerun yesterday and Alex White's power pitching late in the game, I don't believe UNC has matched the intensity of Fresno State. It was on full display when Ackley was hit in the mouth trying to advance to third. UNC has great talent no doubt but they better show up with all of it if they want to beat Fresno imho. Fresno's pitching is under-rated, their defense has been spectacular thus far, and they got some kids who know how to swing the bat.

I dont know why I cant get the game on TV. It says on the website that ESPN-C has it, but all I get on that channel is old games.

I am listening on line to the tarheels broadcast as I grill dinner. Wife is UNC alum, so I am rooting with her. Doesn't look real good at this stage, but this IS college baseball. Six outs and five runs down... yeah that is tough but it could happen

Congrats to Fresno State. They deserved to win this series with UNC. They were unreal on defense and got the big hits when they needed them. Also congrats to UNC they had a great season and they are a great group of young men.

I'm disappointed the Heels didn't win. That's baseball though.

I believe it was the broadcasters who tagged the Fresno State Bull Dogs with that nickname. Their coach used to be in the Big West Conference with Fullerton, Long Beach, UCI, UCR etc when he coached at Cal State Northridge. Based on everything I have heard about him, I don't believe he is one to toot his own horn.

I am happy for the West Coast Bull Dogs ... Fresno also used to be part of the Big West ... and I love having teams from each side of the country duking it out. That is what makes it so interesting. I just hope the FS Bull Dogs didn't peak yet

One thing that really impressed me last night after the win. The coach talked about how there is no "I" in the dugout; it is all "we". He said he's never had another team where every single player was concerned about everyone else on the team. Assuming he meant it and wasn't just saying nice things for the camera , I suspect that this, along with their talent and grit, has helped with this wonderful run they have had. We are sure rooting for them! Heck, I think I might be rooting for them even if they were playing Stanford .

I'm rooting for Fresno too, and I sure am happy for Sean Bonesteele. He did his job and got his team started off well. Heckuva job Sean.
