BobbleheadDoll,

“Yardbird how long did you say you have been teaching Marshalls method ?”

I have been teaching varying degrees of his mechanics (from none to partial to full) and tenets now for ten years. The previous 20 years I was aware of marshall and his pronation tenet but had no reference or direct contact with him so I did the best that I could using the traditional mechanics plus pronation releases that I just made up like the pronation slip curve I taught and the triangle screwball I taught. I still teach the triangle screwball but have switched over to Marshalls pronated curve.

”I believe that with the amount of time Marshall has been teaching , you would see some great results.”

Marshall has had great results with his guys; he even stealthily got one of his previously
Injury prone pitchers into the Big leagues. He’s had others do well.

I have had many All-county and all CIF pitchers use an acquiescing form of Marshall mechanics but the HS coaches will not let full Marshall kids compete, they all to a man say you can not pitch that way for me! So we have to hide it with a leg kick of some kind.

“If lack of injury is his only claim to fame you can do that by sitting in a corner and staring at the wall.”

I think being the first Cy young winning reliever is second to eliminating all pitching related injuries for claim to fame! I remember it was the batters who were the ones sitting in the corner and staring at wall

”Tennis players get tennis elbow because they lock their elbows constantly.”

Marshall’s work has benefited pro tennis players a long time ago when they adopted his pronation theories in southern Florida, now all of them do it.

Kbat2012,

After seeing the AFLAC footage from a better angle it looks like his shoulders align straighter at initial forward force application than the 45 degree angle footage, this is good because the more you early over rotate the more forearm fly out is developed which is injurious. He does scapular load a bit, this causes front of shoulder over stress and Labrum shearing. He has forearm bounce that causes UCL degradadation (micro tearing) with every pitch. The mechanical changes necessary to alleviate these injurious flaws are NOT hard to understand or perform and will not effect velocity at all, remember that your son throws fast because he is genetically superior “fast twitcher” and mechanics have nothing to do with his high velocity. It looked like he pronated several pitches, this is very good.

The optimal angle for any videoing pitchers is in a direct line behind or in front and above The pitcher then overhead then at 90 degrees on both sides. Most video we get to see everywhere is from the 45-degree angle, which truly distorts perception. The best frame rate is a minimum of 240 and the more the better.

I was amazed by people who will critic anything on this board even after I gave them tons of hints "96 mph fastball","cruise at 91-93","top 10 pick."."nasty curveball".."Best high school player".."Super star."..etc...

Tim's name is so overwhelming in the Mid-West that I thought he should be nationally well known by now, just one week before the draft day. I was a little bit disappointed with those so called experts, I think you may have the same feeling as me.

Maybe the Internet isn't that powerful after all.

I don't think you are so funny when you asked to evaluate based on a clip where he does not appear to be throwing as hard as you stated, which by the way you do not state until your 5th post down. This was posted in a recent article:

In a recent come-from-behind victory at Fort Zumwalt South, Melville shook off control issues to strike out the side while hitting 92 mph on the radar gun in the seventh inning.

What is a common cause of control issues? Mechanics. I'm glad to see he was able to fix himself during the game. Pitchers are taught to recognize flaws and adjust their mechanics

I take exception to your statement..I did everything but cuss that he shouldn't be messed with (I believe I used the word excellent)...You asked for suggestions..what did you expect? Now the next time somebody really wants help on this forum they may just get treated badly because of your little game...Oh wait..I think you did that..
I believe I also made comments about what to expect from a discussion forum.
If you wanted to showcase the talent you may have stated that it was what you wanted. This site isn't known for being too expert on advice, just people who care trying to help others get along, to be critical when you got what you apparently wanted is really disingenuous...and bad form.
Putting down people who are honestly attempting to help you...nice...So what if they aren't guru's...at least they honestly tried to help you.
I looked at it a little differently. I saw his video and my first thought was that he probably totally dominates in hs if he throws strikes. Are his mechanics perfect? No. Who has perfect mechanics? Nobody. Everybody can improve and continues to do so. The critiques are totally subjective. They are not totally wrong in my opinion. There is always room for improvement. I have trouble believing an 18 year old has no room for improvement. JMO.

I didn't think any of the comments were negative about his mechanics. People were just offering their opinions. I wouldn't be so sensitive about constructive criticism. Just take it for what it is. Comments on a web forum. If some of it makes sense. Fine. If it doesn't. Ignore it.

Good luck in the draft. The hard part comes afterward and the adjustments to minor league ball and training in the off season as the kid grows up and matures and develops his own understanding of his personality. I suspect he will do just fine.
Yow, is an adjective similar to "yikes, omg, Holy Cow"...I bet that batter was glad the camera wasn't on his front side to see him wet his britches...I know I would have looked like Kruk in the All-Star game the first time he saw Randy Johnson.
Scouts are workin for a pay check..if you want honesty..watch the crowds who watch him play...he does have the package..his real reward will come in the form of a check for the phat signing bonus.
