What if?

My son has had communication with a couple D1 schools. Two inparticular that have seen him play but would like to see him more this spring. My son has extreme interest from a local community college (which actually may be the best fit). They are actually sending him a letter of intent to review this week.

My question is, what if he signs this letter and then during spring he gets an offer from a D1. Assuming the offer is really good and the fit educationally is right, can he still go if he signs with the CC?

Yes, you can sign an JUCO NLI and still sign with a D1. A word of caution though. You should be upfront with the JUCO coach that you are still playing the D1 field. The baseball world is very small and the last thing you need is Junior showing up at the JUCO with a coach that already dislikes him.

That being said, if you're upfront with the coach there probably won't be a problem. JUCO coaches understand the recruiting process, and being in Washington, they probably don't get a lot of early commits, exclusive to the JUCO that aren't still shopping D1.
