Kids will do what adults allow them to. If the alleged(alleged b/c I have not seen any of them personally) incidents of unsportsmanlike and classless behavior I have seen posted about FM, Coppell, Plano and several other teams are indeed true, then the coaches and the administrators are at fault for allowing it to continue.
Excitement and enthusiasm and intensity are great, but the adults in charge must set boundaries so that this stuff is the rare occurrence rather than the norm.
As a HS coach, no way in Hades my teams would have acted as I have seen describe in various posts-if they did, it would only have been once.
Win with class, lose with class, conduct yourself with class-always.
To clarify, my post was not meant as a slap at any school or fan-base. As a coach, the first responsibility to set those boundaries falls on them.
He, along with the players, represent every kid in said school as well as their parents and the community. Part of his job is to make sure that they do so in an appropriate manner when wearing the uniform.

Look, every school has kids that cause problems in environments like this. The large majority of the kids are pretty good, but there are a few that take it too far...EVERYWHERE AT EVERY SCHOOL. It is absurd to say that one school has kids quoting scripture in the stands while the kids are sacrificing a baby calf in the other stands.

I really wish you guys would just enjoy your kids playing and quit trying to parent for everyone else. Handle your own business...my guess is it needs some attention...I know mine does.

This stuff is going to be over soon and I guarantee you that you will wish you had enjoyed it more and spent less time arguing about stuff like this.

Good luck to all win or lose!

AIN'T IT THE TRUTH, SCOTT
These days go by WAY too fast, you need to enjoy
all you can and take the good with the bad.
Full disclosure. My son was a former player at Coppell, but has been gone some time.

I was at the game Friday--it was clear to me that Flower Mound had the better team. They certainly have a strong group of pitchers, and as always, one of the best programs in the area, if not the State.

I didn't pay attention and thus didn't hear any of the comments that have been attributed to the Coppell Student section, but that doesn't mean that they didn't occur. If they did occur, that's embarrasing for the fans of Coppell.

I did observe the behavior of the Flower Mound player in question--it was absurd and childish, and completely different than all of the other Flower Mound players, who acted very respectfully toward the losing team. I've heard of sore losers before, but this kid was a sore winner.

I don't know anything about the history of this particular player, but I can't believe that the FM coaches actually endorse this kind of thing (the fact that he might be hitting .480, if he is, has nothing to do with whether or not he should act with class). It's one thing for fans (teenagers and parents) to act disrespectfully, it's quite another for the players, who are under the direction and control of the coaches, to do so. I would ask the FM fans on this board if in fact they think their coaches are "alright" with the kind of behavior this kid exhibited. I would be shocked if they are.

Unless FM wins the State Championship, and despite their strong team I don't think they will, their players will experience exactly the same thing that occurred to the Coppell team--losing in the play-offs. At that time, FM players, coaches and supporters will experience the same emotions and disappointment that Coppell felt last Friday. I suspect that the FM supporters on this board would not appreciate a member of the winning team acting toward their players as this kid from FM did last Friday.

Isball....we like our coach and will win district next year.

So now after ousting one of the better high school coaches you now only want to win district???

English amassed a 211-106-1 record while at Coppell, 95-32 in district. His teams made two regional semifinals appearances, and two quarterfinals appearances.
It's time for both schools to move on. Vinson has a long history of acting like a punk; it's not news. But he's a heck of a player and don't kid yourself, that's why they put up with it. He was a heck of a player last year when he went 0-4 and got bombed in the first round rout by Coppell giving up 6 runs and making 3 errors and he was a heck of a player in this series when he went 5-7 and closed out both games. FM played a little better than Coppell in each game and they move on and Vinson will move on to college and either he'll get it or he won't. Fortunately, his act hasn't really rubbed off on any of his teammates that you can see, so FM can move forward without him and he can move on as well, but why paint the whole FM program with one brush. True, he does have the ability to push opponents buttons and he did just that with Aikin, who should have known better, but in the end, descended to his level. The rest of the team took their lumps and congratulated the winners. Vinson had the win so he took the shot(s). Typical. Of course, it's harder to find him after the losses, if he's still in the park, but that didn't apply here.
FM's student section was for the most part what you want to see and hear in pulling for their team so good for them; job well done. Coppell's is being bashed because of the actions of a few. That's on them. If you were watching the games on the field, you probably didn't notice it that much but it wasn't a one-way street either. The game at FM had it's share of off-color remarks from both student sections and benches. They were a couple of intense, closely played games and FM took them both. Congratulations. Good luck with Mansfield and moving forward. It's a rich baseball program and there are going to be more of these going forward, hopefully without the histrionics on both sides.

Perfectly stated.
I don't have a dog in this fight but I know of the program, its roots and humble beginnings. I have put numerous hours, money and materials into the FMHS Baseball program. The vision of the first coach was to build a program that was respected and one that others would try and emulate. At its inception the conduct of players was of the utmost importance. Character, respect for the game (which included opponents), pride and hard work were the fundamental building blocks of the program. Both my sons played at FMHS and both were lucky enough to be a part of the most successful teams in the programs history. The teams they played on were not without player and parent issues as it as it can never be perfect. If there was any disrespect shown toward opponents, fans or umpires by a player, well, let's just say the team would all pay the price of the individual.

I hope that all players and parents have the opportunity to experience the "ride" to State because it's fun! It's more fun when a team you beat can tip their hat and wish you good luck in the next round instead of hoping you fail. Those early FMHS teams earned respect and played, win or lose with pride, dignity and humility.

I have not witnessed the events portrayed and if players are conducting themselves as alleged it is shame. A shame not only for the team and players but the school and Flower Mound community as a whole but also for a program that has had great success in its short history. If allegations are true is pretty disheartening especially for someone who was there at the beginning and was able to see where it all started and knew what the vision of the program was.

Your right on Voice....a sore winner. But does that best describe an altar boy?

Good Luck to Flower Baby Mound Boy and his teammates.

Another embarassment to DFW.....

CMWS: D-BAT forces match-up against rivalBy Ryan Boetel rboetel@daily-times.comdaily-times.com
Updated: 08/07/2012 12:45:44 AM MDT

FARMINGTON - Ryan Romo's seeing-eye single squeezed over second base and into the outfield and center fielder Craig Aikin easily scored from third base to give D-BAT Mustangs Dow the win and a 2-0 start in the Connie Mack Series.
D-BAT defeated the Bayside Yankees 6-5 in eight innings at Ricketts Park on Monday night.

The win creates a Dallas-based rivalry game here in Farmington. D-BAT Dow will take on D-BAT Mustangs Carpenter on Tuesday night in a winners' bracket game.

Brandon Koch earned the win in relief for the Mustangs. He took over with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning and two runs quickly scored on a throwing error that tied the game 5-5.

Koch settled down and pitched the final 3 2/3 innings. He struck out seven, walked one and didn't give up an earned run.

"Once they tied it up I knew it was going to be a grind," Koch said. "It wasn't going to be a big hit or a big home run. With the way this game was going I knew it was going to something small, something that just gets out of the infield that will be the winning run."

Romo played in the first game of the series for D-BAT and was scheduled to get the day off Monday. Shortstop Andrew Vinson was ejected from the game in the sixth inning for arguing with an umpire and Romo got the nod to play leftfield for the final innings.

I think that transfer just can't let it go.

I was just pointing out the reason the player was ejected, as to what was being implied.
