Son is on staff at a mid-major D1... the school has sent all students home except athletes.  He says it's very strange on campus.  And the town is definitely a college town, so sort of a ghost town now as well.  At this point, I would be surprised if the other shoe didn't drop soon and they called it a season.  He said on the plus side, the local bars are offering 1/2 off Corona's

My understanding is that it has to be a entire conference decision.

FAU headed to Norfolk tomorrow. Maybe.

Most D1 conferences have followed suit in the last few hours with suspension at least until Mar. 30

Time to talk about all the pros and cons of suspension vs cancellation of season... the further I drill down, the less clear it becomes.  First thought is suspension is the wise move.  But, keeping athletes on campus and practicing while all other students are gone?

Amherst has said that now spring sports will resume when students are brought back to campus.  Given what's happened in the last 24 hours that kind of sounds like whistling in the dark. At my son's (last) game today it was exactly as if someone incredibly important to the program had died: denial, anger, tears, lots of tears.  Even the  coaches were losing it.  They got through the spring trip but won't be allowed to do anything back at campus.  Not that this matters much in light of how dire the situation may become but Coach thought this team was strongest he'd ever had.  Pivotal  group of senior players who won't play another collegiate game.

and having just read the comment above mine, I can say the same for Baldwin Wallace;s team.  They did not have a good day, but when our Seniors were replaced on the field one by one by underclassmen in the bottom of the ninth so they could get some recognition the BW players came out of their dugout in force to applaud the guys, too.

So, my son brought up a good question and I apologize if someone already asked.  With the college seniors who may have played their last game, what happens eligibility wise?  Could they theoretically come back next year and play? Would they have to be an enrolled student if they could? So many new questions and dilemmas are arising. Our last day of HS class before break starts tomorrow.  We had a game today that was canceled because their district wouldn't let students travel.  We have another tomorrow. Closer school so hopeful.  Feels like it's all coming to an end and his senior year will be changed forever. Don't know how to feel. Glad there are others on here in the same boat.  And with no professional sports to watch looks like a lot of HGTV and Food Network!  What the heck will ESPN talk about? UGH!!!

Son's team was at the airport, about to board a plane to San Antonio for their first conference series of the season, when they were told to return to campus. Glad they weren't already in the air.

At this point, I feel exceptionally sorry for the seniors. As is so often is the case, ours have provided critically important leadership this season, and it would be a terrible shame if they'd played their last game.

Big 10 just put out a release — The Big Ten Conference announced today that all organized team activities have been suspended until April 6, 2020 and will be re-evaluated at that time.

The Big Ten has previously announced that in addition to canceling the Men’s Basketball Tournament it will be canceling all conference and non-conference competitions through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year, and participation in all NCAA tournaments and competitions. The Conference also has announced a moratorium on all on- and off-campus recruiting activities for the foreseeable future.

The Big Ten Conference will use this time to work with the appropriate medical experts and institutional leadership to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus.

Maybe a glimmer of hope that the situation may allow some thing to happen down the road. Among other things, it will be easier to keep people in their homes when they're sick if there's something fun to watch on TV.
