I think both sides of the CSL should be pretty competitive this season. As I recall a lot of young players got to play last year. I think Niles North has the early edge on the North Divison because of pitching with Stepniewski, Myers and Williams. On the South Division side New Trier no matter what any one wants to say has the best talent. They will be able to put a lineup on the field that can really mash the ball with guys like Franklin and Rosinski. Still I personally always watch out for Glenbrook South late in the year Coach Lindley seems to always make his teams play well in the last part of the season and in the post-season.
Just something to be aware of in the CSL, Glenbrook South has a very young team and have added two potential soph. starters to the varsity in infielder Trevor Stevens and firstbase/lefty pitcher Mike Guinane. Aside from these guys the lineup will have almost all juniors and at most two seniors. Also I believe that Jon Carlson will have good year on the mound he won 6 games last year as a junior.
Objective response to what? I'm not saying that they're going win the conference, the odds are that they'll be a .500 team, I was just giving everyone a little knowledge about some good players that I found out about when I visted the team the other day. I also thought that I would mention Carlson since he's a 6-2 lefty that had a good year last season and has been under the radar. But really I'd love to understand what you mean about an objective response, the poster above me said more positive things about the GBS team than I did he he's not even from GBS.
Ok--we have put off this discussion long enough. What's happening in the CSL--it seems like a two horse race between Maine South and New Trier. Anyone with some thoughts on the matter?

The Hawks have gone from a disappointing team to a dangerous one. They seem to be combining pitching and big run production. They rise to the occassion in big games and that will be huge come playoff time.

Can they keep this streak going? Whats up with the Trevians? Can GBS use that field uilt for mini-me to their advantage?
I'm don't think anyone should say that Maine South has the CSL, not when New Trier is in the conference and they haven't played them yet. As I posted on another thread MS is at 5-0 and NT is 4-1. GBS is funny because they beat on good teams from other leagues like Oak Park and Loyola, but have been losing in their conference games. Could be the pitchers. My guess is with more then 10 conference games left the CSL will be a fight to the finish. The conference winner could have like 4/5 losses even. At this point it looks like Maine South might have the best pitchers, which could be a great help, but I'm not handing them the title.
I feel that right now Maine South looks like the favorite, however, I think that anyone who counts out New Trier is just plain crazy. They always seem to be in the thick of things and historically can win the big games when necessary. This year may be different, but with so much of the season left it is way to early to hand anyone the crown. I also think GBS and Evanston will have a say in who wins that division of the CSL.
Anyone who is crowning a champion in ths conference right now should read Baseball for Dummies. Essentially, the hawks are in good shape and playing solid ball now; anything can happen.

As far as New Trier's reputation, the players come and go so this is a different batch and that theory gets tossed out the window for the most part.

I agree with Hopper that Evanston may have a say in how this all shakes out.
This should be interesting. Maine South and New trier are tied at the top of the CSL and they square off twice this week. If they split, MSHS has two with GBS and one with Maine East; While the Trevs have two with Evanston and one with Deerfield.

WHo do you think has the edge? Im not sure but it will be fun to watch.
Deerfield played Maine East today and won 10-6. We have Niles North tomorrow (wednesday), and New Trier Thursday, closed out by Niles North on Friday.

Deerfield is currently sitting in first place in the CSL North with a 10-3 conference record, with GBN behind with a 9-5 record?

If Deerfield sweeps out do they become CSL Champs?
