I've enjoyed catching up in this forum with you two guys! Although I doubt I'll have much to add as a rule, I would like to say this re: the sign in the yard. It's hard to say who did or didn't do it. My personal thoughts are that it was someone from the opposing high school but not necessarily someone on the team. I know some of the players and believe them when then say they didn't have anything to do with it, but I'm not familiar with some of the others so it's hard to say because I really don't think whoever did it is likely to admit it, player, student, or otherwise. Was it his baseball coach? No, but interesting that it was suggested and would like to hear more about why (btw, he lives in Mansfield not Midlothian). It was suggested it might be a girl...no, the sign wasn't that pretty and the handwriting wasn't a girls. Caleb is respected here by his peers and although usually a silent leader type, can be a force to be reckoned with so not likely anyone here who would risk him finding out it was them. My thoughts are it was probably former opposing team players who are no longer playing but exhibited negative behavior towards him last year. In any event, given this incident and his truck being egged twice, the next time activity of this type occurs at our home, it will be on video and we'll go from there. This time we'll give the perps a high five because their plan backfired, giving Caleb a determined resolve to beat this team and in his own words, "They just made it personal, alright, let's play." Rivalry can be good until it becomes malicious and I was very proud of how he handled the adversity and conducted himself throughout the entire game. He took care of it on the field and I can tell you he has left it on the field. But yes, the sign made a difference mentally and he had the good fortune of having an excellent night on the mound with a solid defense and offense working for him. Not having closed the night before in a high energy district win against the No. 1 team in our district made a difference I'm sure. We appreciate our neighbors to the south who have supported us and respect his talent, as we do yours, and hope those that don't can at least appreciate the hard work and dedication this young man has put in to achieve what he has thus far. Not an easy thing to do when Mom is the one playing catch with you and she hits and throws like a girl. Smile This was a great life lesson for this kid...high school ball is almost over and this will be a highlight for us for sure and as with anything, it's the last game that everyone always remembers you by; he pitched a complete game for a 5-1 W with mid-80s pitch count, 10ks, and hit 94 on the gun and he did it at their house. That's what the opposing team will remember...and they'll say, "Man, that kid from Cedar Hill was a pretty awesome kid."
Thanks so much Paul and Aleebaba. We've had the good fortune of having great coaches and mentors who served as great role models along the way and I know I speak for Caleb when I say that you all are as much a part of his success as anything else. He had to learn to stand on his own two feet early in life and never was privy to daddy ball or preferential treatment because his dad coached, helped coach, or whatever (not that all do that). I always told him to work as hard as he could and the cream would rise to the top each and every time. He developed a strong work ethic and never expected anything to be handed to him. Although not vocal and shows little emotion, this kid has a true admiration for those of you who respected him as a player and gave him an opportunity to prove himself and gave me an opportunity to prove how committed and dedicated I was for him to play at the next level, not an easy thing to do for a single, working mom of three. But, here we are...about to embark on the next chapter. DBU is definitely in the plans unless something remarkable happens in June, but if and when and however far his determination carries him, my advice to him is to never get bigger than yourself and never forget where you came from. He'll be just fine, Mom however is gonna miss this kid!

Hey Monkeyboy,

Heard some of the Midlothiam ballplayers put a sign in Caleb's front yard yesterday morning saying they were going to beat him last night. How did that go?
I doubt it takes a sign to motivate Caleb...if it does he may not have a lengthy baseball career. Solid pitcher...above average hitter...wish him well.

No, it doesn't take a sign to motivate Caleb; however, when you walk out and the first thing you see the morning of a game against a rival team is a sign saying "Are you ready to lose again," I believe it might motivate one to not only win, but win with an edge. It took a little effort for the perps to drive to a neighboring town and enter onto someone's private property and stick the sign up facing the front door. It then does become personal and one might feel a little violated, wouldn't you think? But hey, it's over, it's history. It made for a great rival game and win and the 'Horns are focused on Tuesday night at home against District No. 1 Mansfield. Thank you for the kind words and ditto.

I dont care if he hit it with a tree limb. Clinches playoff spot for Midlothian with SGP loss.

So playoff spots are set now just the seeding has to be completed.

Mansfield has clinched #1 seed
Legacy and CH are in a dog fight for spots 2 and 3
Midlo is #4 barring losses by Legacy and/or CH and Midlo winning last two games

If Midlo wins out and Legacy and CH both lose last game (highly doubtful) then three way playoff. If Legacy loses last game and CH wins then Legacy #3 seed and CH #2 seed. If CH loses and Legacy wins then Midlo and CH will play for #3 and #4 seed.

Been a great season in a tough district. Hope all teams do well in the playoffs matching up in the first round against 6-5a group.

Great season for Noah Lee (Soph). Great kid and an even better catcher...sky is the limit for that kid.

Thanks Coach. That means alot coming from you. I truly hope everything goes great for you in Russia. Noah had a good game and year, but we just did not have enough today.

I will miss him a bunch this summer. Truly a "coach on the field" that we all hope for!

Also like to say congrats to Big E. another good sophomore that could go a long way if his head is on straight. Wink
Thanks Coach...he has improved his approach and maturity has helped. Hit well this season...once he learns to hit the offspeed pitch the sky will be the limit. He, Barr and Hallmark should have a VERY large contribution to a young team next year.

Hope life is treating you well!!!
Runninginxs

You support Midlothian but your glad to see Heritage up 1? Well they are!!

ISBALL,

I didn't learn to read in write in the great state of Texas but from where I'm from(Great Pacific Northwest) my sentence reads propoerly.

I'm sad Midlo lost game 1 and ultimately the series but if it make you happy then my "confused" sentence structure was well worth it

Monkeyboy, thanks for the good luck wish...sorry Midlo lost out as we did also. As for the comment about the sign, some things should be left alone...k? K! I hope your kid doesn't have to endure certain things during his next two years in high school baseball. If he does, perhaps you'll understand why I say that. If not, I guess you can stick it...uhhh...stick to climbing trees! Smile
