Guys what I'll say is this.

Ty Cobbs quote was this "when a pitcher had a real good curveball. I always got as deep in the box as I can".

The secret to hitting a curveball is to hit it after it breaks. ML hitters have a knack of #1 guessing and when they guess CB they hit it hard. #2 They have a knack at slowing down the heel plant (sometimes) when they don't guess. When they don't slow the heel plant they tend to drift and not block their momentum and will look very bad in the box. Often times lunging. #3 They have a knack (sometimes) even when they do lung at keeping the hands back.

But staying back with the weight and keeping the pressure on the back foot and spinning will not work either sense this makes you vernable to the fastball.

Amazing....Some people say, stand up in the box and hit breaking balls before they break....And, some say stand back and hit them after they break.....

So, this means there is a point in time when a breaking ball goes straight through the hitting zone.........

I, now believe, people will believe anything...No doubt about it....

It's a wonderful thing for marketers the world over....

A "bad" curveball does not, all of a sudden, go straight........What actually happens is, the ball doesn't break alot early on out of the pitcher's hand and the location is more easily recognizable.....With less break during it's flight, the fallacy is, that it hangs.....In reality, the ball is simply a curveball without much curve.....
dog...you been with the hit man?

NO....incorrect. What does happen is that the BALL DOES BREAK early out of hand and is easy to see. A hanging breaking ball can have a big break. A big up hill casted breaking ball would be a hanging breaking ball if the pitcher allows it to be in the center of the zone. Even a PLUS pitch that has good break can be a hanging breaker.
Interesting debate...

I understand Vance's position that if it's up in the zone its a hanging CB regardless of the amount of break but I tend to agree with BDog's logic that if it had plenty of break it wouldn't hang in the zone thus a hanging CB would be defined as one that lacks much bite.

Would like to see coaches chime in here.

50 plus years in the game--playing, coaching and instructing--running programs not only for myslef for for towns---that should suffice as if I have to explain to you anyway

Vance --you and other's who dont want to go public disturb me--- I am used to people being open---I can appreciatie people not wanting to go public but when asked for such info there are email and PM methods

You and Little Dog continue to be condescending to all as if you way is the only way--taint so pal regardless of what background may be--just because sdomeone does not agree with you does not make them wrong
I'm just wondering why Identity means everything to most people here. I'm a scout, get paid to do it full time. Played and coached and know the game pretty darn good. I know how pro ball works and college baseball to. Guess I have just bsuted the bubble of some on what they thought it really was.

Like everyone thinking and believeing scouts get a bonus for signing a player. Just not true. I am not here to critize but not knowing my name allows me to be honest about what really happens in pro ball and college ball and it allows me to be factual. Sorry if you have a hard time with that.

Just research what I say. If you disagree then at least you have done the research to draw your own conclusion. But, if your conclusion is just from what you think it is then I'm sure you'll keep right on wanting to know what my name is so you can then say without doing your own research that SO and So said this and he is a scout.

Let me say this to you--just being a paid scout doen't mean you know all the answers just as I know I do not have all the answers.

But it certainly seems many have seen thru you and Little Dog---

If you notice it is only you and Little Dog that I rag on--and that is because I think both of you are bogus and of no substance-- StatMan reads you well just as I do

It is your attitude that riles people--

I think it is time to say good nite to you--there is no need for me to keep defending myself to the likes of you---take care vance
