Rootin' for the Tritons! clapping

BTW, for our eastern brethren...UCSD is a real quality university. Ranked #35 amongst Tier-1 national universities by US News & World Report, right behind Boston College, tied with Lehigh, Georgia Tech and the University of Rochester...and right ahead of the University of Illinois. All great schools.

Its a great destination for in-state kids and others too!

Region 8(Florida) is a much more difficult tournament than the national championship! Take for instance last year, Lynn University(Boca Raton) won the national championship. You know where they finished in the Sunshine State Conference?? Fourth!! I would like to see how the other teams would do during the year if they played in that conference! Its harder to get out of Region 8 than to win a national championship!

Had the pleasure of watching first round action today. Brooks Martin from Central Missouri shut out Tampa. That's an amazing accomplishment when you consider Tampa was averaging over 10 runs a game. Nothing Martin threw was straight, and he threw all his pitches for strikes. Color me impressed.

During the rain delay before the UC San Diego and Georgia College game the UCSD kids put on multiple entertaining performances: mimicking curling and bobsledding, and a killer YMCA dance performance. Needless to say, they weren't too uptight.
Just started today, ClevelandDad. Double elimination ending next Saturday, May 29.

The eight teams are divided into 2 brackets, much like the D1 World Series. However, the 4 highest ranked teams are all in one bracket: UC San Diego, Tampa, Central Missouri, and Georgia College and State. The survivor of that bracket will have earned its way into the championship round. Follow all the action here: DII Championship Info

HCD,

We've been to a number of college games this year in So Cal, including a couple times in La Jolla to watch UCSD. Coach O'Brien has the Triton kids loose during all their games. They're a fun group to watch, and it's hard not to cheer for them! So I for one am not very surprised that they weren't too uptight...they'll probably have the same attitude throughout the series...they have fun!
Central Missouri and UCSD are now in the 11th inning of a truly great college game.
0-0 through 8 with UCSD throwing a no-hitter but only having 2 hits.
Now, in the 11th, UCSD pushes across a run to go up 2-1 and still batting.
In the previous elimination game, Tampa loses 2-1 to Georgia College.
Every game has been even with the biggest margin being an 8-6 win by Southern Indiana.
Clearly, this is college baseball at its very best where the teams are evenly matched and are battling into the late innings and early morning hours.
Amazing pitching performances at the DII national championship. Tampa University came into the tourny averaging 10.4 runs a game and was able to score one unearned run in two games. Great job by Jason Nicholas from Georgia College and State yesterday in holding a terrific offensive team in check. Sorry floridafan.

What Matt Rossman did on the mound for UC San Diego last night is the stuff of legends.
Got back last night from our (Tampa) 0-2-Bar-b-que. Even with being eliminated after 2 games, it was an exciting experience for the players just to make it to the CWS. We had a war fight to get to Cary and just didn't seem to be able to keep the bats going.

All the teams I saw had fantastic pitching through the first two games, it will be interesting to see the depth throughout the tournament. The ball was not flying very deep in the NC air, so the teams that are good singles hitters and small ballers should continue to do well.

Son hopes to have the opportunity to return in future years. Hopefully, Cary will continue to host and maybe they can build a fan base to increase attendance from the local area. It takes advertising and history (Omaha has great history for example) to get the crowd out. Some of the schools in D2 have as few as 1,000 students so it is hard to draw many student fans.

The USA National Training center is an awesome complex and the field is pristine. Great job by the grounds crew to keep the games going during the stormy weekend.

Now waiting for the 2011 season, and looking forward to having floridafan's son to help us mount a return to the D2 CWS.
