District 8-5A

I'm pretty familiar with Plano West, but who do Plano and Plano East have coming back that should make an impact as far as pitching this season?

Plano has two Jr. pitchers that will make an impact and East has one Jr. that will make an impact. Not sure if they have anything else.

East has Arrieta returning as a starter plus Landers who rotated last season some and several spot pitchers who looked pretty good in relief roles last season (one Jr and two other Sr's)...also one returning Sr from surgery last season. But, just as important they return 6 starters in the field outside of the pitching and a lot of varsity experience.

Base Stealer, I'm not questioning your picks but why do you think the district will finish in this order? Clearly I'm biased but I think Boyd will break through this year and claim one of the top four spots, along with Jesuit as well.

How does Wylie look for this season? I know they lost a lot of players, but I'm not too sure what they have coming back.

You are correct, we lost a lot of talent. A few everyday contributors are coming back. Going to have some talent that the team didn't have room for last year as well that could surprise this year. I also have to agree with Bronco in that McBoyd and Jesuit cannot be overlooked.

base stealer was probably looking at the standings from last year. I think Boyd and Jesuit were both 3-9 last year in District play, are there new players that will help them out this year? Thank you for the insight.

Horns, I think Boyd has a good shot at the playoffs for a few reasons. One, I think they will have a little more pitching depth than last year. Also, they return several guys that were starters on a good defensive team last year. If they can be more consistent at the plate I think they can take that next step. Last year was kind of about the transition from 4A to 5A and it was a good learning experience. If I'm remembering correctly, 3 or 4 of Boyd's district losses were by 2 runs or less last year. Overall, I'm optimistic but who really knows though until everybody starts playing games.

Any other 8-5A teams playing in the McKinney ISD Invitational Feb 25-27? I know Plano West usually plays in this tournament and Allen was in it last year.

Wylie is in it as well.

Bronco, although not 5A, JJ Pearce(4A) is in the McKinney tourney and should do well. They return their top two pitchers. Should be a great tourney, weather permitting

Weather permitting is the key phrase every year with the McKinney ISD Invitational. Seems like I've sat through at least one game that has been miserably cold each of the last 3 years during this tournament. All the coaches of the McKinney schools involved do a good job of running the tournament and ensuring that the fields are in the best condition possible given the weather conditions they have to deal with.

haha Boyd won. beat plano 9-3, Wylie 12-1 (with their #3 starter on the hill) and also beat Royce 2-0... can you say pitching and defense? Boyd also made it to the tournament championship last year. they have a legit shot at playoffs

I'm not seeing the incorrect statement in DTW's post. Not that it matters, but Boyd did make the championship game of the McKinney ISD Invitational tournament in 2009. I don't think it's worth putting too much stock into how someone did in an early season tournament as it has no bearing on how district will play out.

Plano looks to compete all year long and they just put up some serious numbers this weekend - 12, 16,12 & 11 to go 4-0.

I like the way the DH swings the bat,Kaufman. I think he pitches for them as well.

Actually Plano lost to Sachse this weekend, but I will agree that they are looking mighty tough.

McKinney Boyd started district in a good way with an 8-0 victory over Wylie tonight.

Sounds like that was a great pitchers' duel. Man, scoring runs in 8-5A could be tough as there are several really good pitchers in the district.

Plano gets a nice win, Kaufman get his first varsity win on the bump and goes yard...this is a kid to watch...nice win Joey

Now that tournaments are over and everyone's into the district portion of the schedule now, who's playing who this week? Boyd has Plano West on Tuesday and Allen on Friday. I know I'm looking forward to some good spring break baseball, even though I don't get a spring break anymore .

Wylie played Berkner tonight at Roughrider stadium with an 8 - 4 win. Plano Sr. Tuesday, Jesuit on Friday.

Even though the top batters for PW were fighting flu like fevers, they didn't play their best but still had a very convincing win over Mck Boyd. Congrats and hopefully they will benat full strength Fri night. That gamechanger is a fun way to watch the games for those of us who can't attend.

Boyd got bit by the big inning bug in the 2nd when West scored 5 runs and it was just a tough uphill battle after that as Robert Huber was outstanding as usual. Boyd had more hits in the game overall but just couldn't string them together at the right times. Well played game by both sides for the most part.

The kids at PW saw a slogan " the Reign Continues" on the program for last night's game vs Plano (at Plano) that set them off and the boys sent a message to everyone in 8-5A!!! For some reason, Plano doesn't realize they shared the district title in 2009 with PW.

Great game PW, Blum looked fantastic (1 hitter) and ALL of the PW boys pounded the ball last night.
