L.A.
Medeiros went 6 1/3 and was relieved by Lefty Brandon Alvey. Medeiros looked good. The run to tie it was unearned. They are tied 1-1 going to the 10th I believe.

KD - Here are my picks for Tuesday night. Let's see how I do.

Denton Ryan over Keller in 9 innings
Heritage over Richland
Grapevine over Haltom
I predict Fossil and Carroll to play a tight one. Too close to call at this point. I'll let you know my choice about 5:30.

Eagles are 2-0 in district for the first time since Hall of Fame coach Benny Jones was there.

We'll try! Long way to go...but...I have a player for you guys...junior...CF/OF...bats left throws left...throws it from the OF 88 mph...6.6 60 yard dash...already getting recruited by Florida State, Rice, Baylor, Georgia, Houston, Mississippi State, Miami...

Let me know if DBAT needs a kid like this.
First of all...my comments are tempered by the fact that every Tom, Dick, and Harry in Rockwall has at least one screen name here and I know from experience that some of the banter is tongue-in-cheek -- and meant to stimulate discussion about the ROCK -- fair enough....but....

Don't you guys (whoever you are) think a Coach Payne dog-pile is a little premature? No matter what expectations your program's history builds over the years, I would think it only fair to give the guy a while to settle in as the head coach. <- that guy in the camper in Lubbock this weekend would agree, I'm sure.

Coach P isn't making errors between the white lines.

Concerning running sprints or whatever as a form of discipline....we have all seen it done, for many reasons. It happened at East last year a time or two. I don't think it should be viewed as particularly humiliating, whether it's one kid or the entire team. Perhaps it will teach a little accountability. Maybe the guys not running should join those that are....

From what I observe, the Yellowjackets program has a great group of kids and excellent parents. I can understand the frustration and the tendency to defect blame to the coach, especially when the team's last stop has been the Regional finals (give or take a week) for several years now.

If I were to impersonate Swami....I'd predict ---- Rockwall playing into May.

Watch,

I think you need to give the new coach some time to get it right. Sometimes it takes time to get the chemistry right. Let's see where things are at the end and then pass judgement.

Also, as for the discipline of running sprints at the end of the game; if that is what it takes to get their attention I don't see a problem. Our select coach did the same thing last year and I think the guys got the message.

this is hear say, but was told the rock coach is inconsistent in singling out players. some get pulled in middle of a game for an error while others make 2 or 3 and bat clean up the next game. also was the team humiliated by the coach after the lakeview game by some having to run wind sprints in front of the opposing team?

The pulling of some players is known as favortism, parent influence, and a few others. This happens in alot of programs. This topic was in another post. A great coach will put the
friendship aside and do what is best for the players.

The current coach has alot of history so, there will be bonds formed. However, in showing
special attention to some and not the others does not help the team chemistry, IMO.
The kids know who should be there and who shouldn't.

I agree with Panther Dad and Longtoss, If running sprints, get's there attention then
run them hard.

I have also heard the same stuff as Watch&Listen. However, can not comment
until I see it first hand. I do not know the new coach at the rock. He does have some big shoes to fill and the opening of the second school is going to make the winning tradition harder.

Good Luck to all !!! Play as hard as you can every play, like it will be the last time you play.
Without extending this discussion unnecessarily, what does making 2-3 errors in a game have to do with batting cleanup in subsequent games? The coach has to balance his best defensive lineup and his strongest offense. Many times, they are not the same. I suppose this might make a pretty good (generic) discussion on its own -- defense versus offense, position by position, etc....but there are obviously no right and wrong answers. The successful coaches make the right calls most of the time.
Ken -- I think most coaches do it because they love the game and want to be around it -- not to gain acceptance from the parents. Their joy is in finding the right formula to win each year and, at times, to see their kids reach a level of success beyond their involvement. I can tell our coach genuinely enjoys seeing kids from previous teams when they come back to visit....even if it is limited to a quick hello. I hope that applies to your guys as well. Parents and fans are often times overly critical...it comes with the territory today and you're right, it is a thankless job. Unfortunately that applies to most walks of life. I am a little surprised at the over-reaction that is fueling this discussion...but it should shock no one.

I guess in 2006 making players run wind sprints is called humiliation; when I was playing it was call discipline which a lot of players could use today. I once saw a coach after a less talented team beat them have the kids run wind sprints until a least one player quit. Needless to say, the team lost but one game the rest of the season. Different coaches get the attention of players in different ways. I have no association with Rockwall but have seen they play twice. They will be a team to be reckon with this season.
