The 2010 should darf his brother as he has about 2 inches on him at the same age.

Nick,

question about the swing. I see his hands never come c-ocked at toe touch but everything seems to get right through impact. I know you are a good baseball guy and will not mind these questions.

Do you think that the bat has to travel a certain distance to reach good speeds?

Do you think a bat that is not centered at toe touch forces the player to hit the ball more out front?

I seem to see Jeter have this bat position but few others...what are your thoughts?

Has he every played with the bat more cocked /centered at toe touch? What were the results?
Swingbuster,

I think your point is a good one. BBscout mentioned it also. We are working on a bit more inward turn, scap load. I am trying to change very subtly because he hits with a quite a bit of power as is. I also want to be careful with bat c-ock as it can turn into a wrap quickly. Thanks for the input. Nick

I`m a pre-HS player

Age: 14
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Bats/Throws: Right/Right
Arm Speed: 68 M.P.H.
Favorite Pitch to Crush: Hanging Curve
Position: C, SS, 3B, OF, 1B, and I`m gonna try pitching this year.
I play baseball from March - November and fill the December - February void with basketball. I`m gonna play varsity as the starting catcher as a sophomore cause we have a player that will be All-State easily and I`m the only one brave enough to catch for him.
My son will be a freshman this fall here in Indpls. His 14th birthday is tommorrow. At 6' and 200 lbs, his min position is Catcher but 3B, 1B and pitching are within his skill range. A switch hitter he continues to challenge himself to b a better ball player. Meanwhile dad is very proud and enjoys watching his game. Look for the Indiana Prospects Gold 14u team. We'll be around.
I have a 14 year old 8th grader playing jr. high baseball this spring. He will move up this summer and play with the high school in Colt League play.
5'11"
135 lbs(his football coaches want him to work on this number laugh

Go Hard or Go Home
I have a 13 year old in his second year of select ball. He's playing his first tournament of the year this weekend. When we got to the park Friday night, the coach asked me if I was ready to get the butterflies out - his way of telling me that son was pitching. I always ask myself before the season starts if my son has what it takes to compete at this new level. I got my answer for this year Friday night. His presence on the mound and ability continue to leave me in awe.
I just found this website, I love it!
I have a 14 year old, 8th grader, with college (Stanford) and big league dreams. (Of Course.) He's played travel ball for 3 years, plays SS, and has a 78 mph fastball, and a "Wicked Deuce". Looking forward to the whole high school experience.

Coach Robert- My son is the same situation, Aug 21 bday and an 8th grader. He also is playing on a 13 year old team because we felt that was the team that played the best competition and most tournaments. He could have played on a number of 14 year old teams with kids his grade but this team seemed like the best as far as getting prepared for hs. I'd be interested in hearing how your season goes down the road.
I've got one that I'm sooo proud of. He is a 7th grader, #2pitcher on rotation playing Jr. High against mainly 8th & 9th graders (most bigger than me). He has been completly eaten up with baseball this year. Last friday he started the home opener against a team of 9th graders, he gave up 3h, 1bb, 1er, 2runs with 8k's over 5 complete innings. He finished stronger than he started. He was walking on air! Life is good!!

I have an 8th grader. Hes a catcher pitcher first baseman. He is currently playing middle school ball. He will be playing Jr Legion this summer then he will start his off season strength and conditioning program with the High School players. Hes 5-11 197 and throws a consistent 2.2 and hits 2.1 now and then. Throws in the 77-79 range. Can mash but is not very fast. He is working hard on his speed but he is very quick behind the dish. Loves the game and I am very proud of him.
I have a son Logan who just turned 14 in December. He's 5' 10'' and 157 lbs. He's been playing for 3 years now and has worked his way onto one of the better traveling select teams in our area. He's primarily a pitcher (gunned at 78), but loves catching as well. His hitting is improving as we spend time at the cages. No matter where this path leads him, I hope he can look back on it fondly when he's older. I know I will.
I am fairly new to the board, but have really enjoyed it, and have learned several things that I have used with my two pre-hs players.

Tye is 13, playing on a traveling team in the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball Super League and will also be playing Babe Ruth for the first time. He plays infield and outfield as needed. Pitched some last year and is interested in doing more this year. Wish I knew how to teach him to pitch.

Austin is 11, also playing on a travel team and will be playing on the local LL majors team. He is a catcher, but also plays 3b, ss, 2b and cf as needed.

Both have desires to play D1 ball. With hard work, some luck, and the help from this board, I think they might have a chance. Thanks!
Here is an interesting thing for you to do. have your son write down the names of his starting team at 12 years old. Fold it up, stash it away and open it up on his opening game senior year.

Count how many players are left.....My son's senior year is this year.........of his championship undefeated Bronco team (12yrs old) only 2 players still play baseball.
