Performance Anxiety? sounds like something I heard at a teachers in service day. As far as pitchers are concerned there are those that can and those that cant and many times it has more to do with their psychological make up than their physicl ability. There is a name for it that we are all familiar with which will be for this site be left un named. Can you teach it? Why do some kids not have it?
I hope you all take this the right way.

I gotta tell you, this might be one of the funniest of all threads. I mean if your only reading and not really all that involved.

I'm laughing my *** off reading the comments. Is there something wrong with me? or what?

PiC,

You are the most intelligent person I can think of... who has so much yet to learn about the game of baseball.

Those who think they know everything there is to know about this game, haven't even got a clue! Nobody has ever lived who knows everything about the game and nobody ever will.

By the way, if I'm shooting a free throw and I make it... but the ball touches the rim rather than a clean swish... Is it success or failure????
This may be my last post on the HSBBW. It has gotten to the point where any kind of conversation is impossible.

I knew it was a vague topic to begin with, and I knew that many would make it a make up, guts, or courage issue. Some of the responses are just ridiculous and I have no clue what in the HeII PiC is yakking on about, but he hijacks every thread with his think on the run and try to sound intelligent doo doo. I have had it. I have no more to offer this site.

I apologise for the thread. What was I thinking?

Everybody, I hope you kids dreams come true. mine has and this site helped him to realize that. Happy Holidays.
Big...it could be worse....at least we only have to read their posts....just think what it would be like...if you had to deal with some of these egos day in and day out...up close and personal? That might give you reason to quit everything....altogether....we are lucky! So...keep on posting....we need your advise....and the vast majority of people who reguarly check this site...they can distinguish good, reliable information from the self-serving and self promoting junk.
BigHit,

I hope that your son's dreams have NOT come true just yet. If so, he has been dreaming about the wrong thing. If not, I sincerely hope that that his dreams do come true!

The only reason I mention this is because we have run across a lot of players who have reached their goal (dream) by just getting to professional baseball. I'm pretty sure that most every one of these players did not make it to the Big Leagues. We see some who are more into thinking they have become some kind of celebrity, by just being a professional baseball player. Being satisfied is the enemy!

I'm pretty sure Eric wants more and I think he will get it. I think you might have meant that he's living his dream. That is different than his dream coming true. I'd like to think that most everyone who posts here will be pulling for him, just as they/we pull for all the other member sons who have a dream. There sure are a lot of outstanding baseball players whose parents post on this board. At some point there might be several HSBB sons in the Big Leagues. I hope those players parents continue to post when that happens.

To answer the original question. There is only the game that counts! It means virtually nothing, how good someone is in the bullpen. The bullpen has no hitter and there's no umpire and there's no failure. A pitcher can make mistakes in the bullpen without getting hurt. The bullpen only serves the purpose of getting ready to take it to the field. If a pitcher has good stuff in the bullpen, sooner or later he will bring it to the field. If he can't do that, sooner or later, he'll be out of baseball.
PG and others

Great posts.

It was worth reading 60 posts to get to that. Thanks.

I know of two. I'm usually so clueless, so there are probably a few more.

EDIT: Clueless Proof: I forgot Ben, so that's 3. Smile

Big ...

I too am posting my request that you don't stop posting.

I may not always agree with you, but as bbscout and others have stated, you bring a lot of good perspective and information to this site. What "little Big" has experienced and how you have experienced it with him offers many opportunities to share the details and the perspective.

Don't let imbecilic posts from people who admit that a lot of what they post is intentionally antagonistic stop you from sharing what you have to offer. (It makes me think they need something to kill the boredom for them and make themselves feel important ...)

Keep on posting, Big ... heck, we'll even let you wear your pink tu-tu !!!
PG- Not sure if I am reading your post right or not, but it sounded like you were suggesting that having a goal of professional baseball and not MAJOR LEAGUE baseball is a bad thing. Some people that get to the minors are simply not talented enough to make it to the bigs...and that isn't a bad thing. I commend any kid who makes it to professional baseball...very few ever do.
Coach Knight,

I believe you read "my opinion" correctly.

However, I can see how a senior in college could be satisfied with just playing a little pro ball. There are "organizational" players who have a slim chance of ever making it. I would like to think that most of them still have the goal or dream though.

Of course it's true that most players do not make the Big Leagues. I also would commend any player who has played professional baseball.

However, for young high school players to sign without having the MLB goal... Well, all I can say is... they should have gone to college!

Yes, If we are talking about a young player signing out of high school, I believe having the goal of playing professional baseball without having the goal of making it to the Big Leagues... is a "bad" thing.

Not making it to the Big Leagues, by itself, is not a "bad" thing. I would never be interested in drafting a high school kid who would be satisfied with being only a minor league player. This in no way reflects anything negative on the many professional players who do/did not make it.
