Sophomore suddenly getting 2-3 emails daily from colleges inviting to some event or another and saying keep us posted about your season. I know this is all spam but what flood gate just opened?

Your son likely attended an event where the participation list was available to schools. Have a good laugh when you receive one commending your son for his play when he signed up but didn’t participate.
A helpful tip I learned on this site- if the email does not have the standard "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom it is much less likely to be part of an automated campaign.
My son entered his SAT score on PG's website. Within 24 hours, he had a notoriously spammy (but seemingly personal) email from Stanford. So, if something recently changed on PG or PBR, that could have done it.

I think that's true, but I also think that many coaches use the same platform that is used for bulk mails to send out more targeted emails, particularly in D3. Another tip I learned here is that inclusion of the coach's cell phone number is a good sign.
The best sign is when your coach gives you a number tells you to call this person from school A at X time
So far only a couple with phone numbers. Thanks everyone. Was wondering if this was a welcome to your sophomore year kind of thing. Had a few sporadic last year but so many now.
