Tiger Paw Mom, You'll need to double check your roster/recruiting info.

After a quick check of the Noles and gators, they are almost identical from a percentage standpoint.

8 or 9 from the Tampa area and 4 from south Florida (WPB-South). Both get the majority of thier player's from closer to home (Central and North Florida). The gators get more out of state player's than the Noles...which makes the Seminoles the team with the largest Florida contingent.

You are correct, Miami seems to stay home or go out of state.

FYI, many Miami HS player's have left a proud history behind @ FSU.
Soxnole,
I recently (within the month) saw Mike Martin on SUN interview. He said he prefers his players to come from close to home, within hours distance and recruits from his camp.
Go back and read the original post, and reread what I mentioned in this post I mentioned before. In fact make sure you read the entire thread. Seems as if a lot of people have the same perception.
If you are right, Seminoles get the largest FL contingent, so if an out of state player is looking to play, chances are pretty slim, would you agree? And chances are if you are a top player close to FSU, chances are you might beat out the player from South Florida, according to what was implied by Mark Martin.
BTW, there is ONE player from South Florida, Dade county, none from Broward and the closest from Palm Beach is not close to here!

TPM, Not quite sure what roster you are looking at but there are 2 players from Miami, 1 from Lake Worth and 1 from west Palm Beach.

I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and we called all 4 of those places south Florida! Heck I used to commute to Miami and WPB, 30 miles each way, that aint close?

The 3 rosters speak volumes...Florida and Florida State rosters are practically interchangeable.....but I don't doubt 11 probably believes he'll get a more solid citizen away from Dade County! I think this is the prevailing attitude in Hogtown as well.
My bad, two from Miami, SAME school.
Actually those other places you mentioned, two from Palm Beach County, ok, SOUTH Florida. What happened to Broward? Broward has produced some of the best players from the state, college and pro.
Point is Coach himself said he PREFERS players close to home, maybe why players in South Florida do not get recruited from here, unless you attend their camp.
Don't be offended from my statement regarding alumni, Clmeson has players from families that are alumni. I even posted once a long time ago that children of alumni should look into programs at those schools, gives them an edge.
Once again, for the third time (?), read the posts from other FL posters.
As far as making the statement about getting a "more solid" citizen away from Miami, regardless, your statement was unneccesary.
BTW, we are from Broward.

First of all...there is no advantage in being an alumni. This is not a fraternity we are talking about.

Second...I do believe the odds of getting a "Willie Williams type" are far greater in Dade than in say Leon or Volusia county.

The bottom line is that the Noles have a long history of south Fla. products, wherever they live (WPB-south). The fact that they currently do not have any Broward kids is moot. Geography, the plethora of talent throughout the state and how many prospective student athletes want to go to Florida State are the driving force behind the recruiting efforts. These are typically player's that show interest, often times attending camp. At FSU they can afford to take those that WANT them as well as those that they want!

Keep in mind that there are many, many reasons why a recruiting coach takes a pass on an individual athlete...too numerous to mention.
