First of all, I would like to congratulate "D" on his continued success and all others here.

I would like to congratulate Milwaukee Brewers First Round Draftpick, Mark Rogers, for yet another quality start here in the FL STATE LEAGUE earlier today. Mark pitched seven shutout innings with 10 Ks and FBs hoovering around 100MPH the entire seven innings he pitched. Breaking pitches have developed into plus outpitches in his last four starts making his 100MPH FBs seem like comets to the hitters Eek Peace, Shep
At this point - I really dont know what the heck is going on with my eldest.

My wife flew up to the Northeast to go see him play a few games today. It has been a long time since she has seen a game of his.

First at bat - Double - Next at bat - Double.

This has been going on now for 11 games. He has had some good seasons - but I have never seen him start a season like this.

I guess this qualifies as bragging - which makes it a bit uncomfortable and embarassing to post. But I feel like doing it, and I just hope he keeps doing it.

Go D Go!!!

Got to brag a bit on one of my former players Matt Harrison from South Granville HS and a fellow big city of Stem NC resident. Ranked as the #9 prospect for the Braves. Matt was just called up to AA Miss in only his third year of pro ball. Matt is only 21 years old. He was 8-3 and with a 2.35 era. Matt was named to the Carolina League All Star team but he wont get to play in the game because he moving up. I am so proud of him. What a humble young man that worked so hard to have this opportunity. Recently I had an area scout of the Braves tell me that he will probaly see some time this year in Atlanta near the end of the year. When he was in HS he was he kid always wanting to stay after practice to work extra and never missed an off season work out. He was the leader of our off season work out program as a senior. And he was the kid that was not good enough to make the AAU team as a 13 year old. And he was the kid that hit 70 for the first time as a 14 year old freshman. He also was the kid that came up early for practices and helped work on the field on the weekends. It could not happen to a better kid.
Haven't really gotten to see my older son play since he's up in S Troy so I really enjoyed the Fri afternoon DH. He played well as the team won game 1 and tied game 2 in 10 innings. He just called me today 7-9 in a DH victory and threw out 4 of 5 baserunners and picked off one....
I guess I'm going to pile up some travel miles next spring....

Its'....Tell "D" way to go. Keep swinging.

CoachM,

Thanks and great to hear about Joe whacking the heck out of the ball. Tell him to keep rocking!!!

They are starting to throw at D alot now - so he is black and blue in many places - LOL - Got whacked in his first two at bats in the first game today - and almost got whacked the third at bat as well. He is getting a bit testy. LOL

Good luck to Joe and glad to hear he is playing well and having a good summer!

Regards

10 yr old son, just back from week 1 @ CDP. 2nd game of single elim. Called on in bottom of 6th, 1 out, 1 ball on leadoff hitter. We are up 8-7, they have a man on second. He gets 2 routine ground balls to get the save, dad loses at least 10 years off his life !!! Shouldn't have been too surprised, the kid was pretty good the entire week. 10 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 9 K, 3 BB, 2 HBP (oops) Held one of the undefeated teams to 1 ER in 3 IP, also had 2 RBI in that game to help knock them out of the top 8. Entire experience was amazing, would do it all again even at twice the price. ( I hope Lou doesn't read this.)
OK - here goes.

Son makes the All Star team in his collegiate summer league. Goes to the game. Plays SS (LOL) and bats 3rd.

Prior to the game - they have all sorts of stuff including the usual home run derby.

One of his teammates - a very big fellow - is invited to participate in the HR derby. He hurts his hand the night before - so they ask D to take his place.

D thinks it is funny (as do I) - but he says what the heck.

As he said to me prior to the event - I am 6'0 190 - and the rest of these guys are very large. LOL

Cut to the chase - hits 3 in the 1st round - 4 in the 2nd and - 3 in the last round to win the Home run derby. Crowd loved cheering for the smallest guy as well - which made it even more of a goof. (And a few of the HR's were really well hit smacks.)

Just another day in this crazy game. You just never know what the hell is gonna happen next. LOL

Its,

Great story and congrats to your son. As the mom of a player who has been doubted because of his size for years, I always pull for the small guys. Tell him to keep proving them wrong!
Haven't posted here all summer, but its been a good one. My son is an '06 HS grad who's been playing in the Ban Johnson (KC) wood bat collegiate league this summer. He's the only 18-year-old in the entire 8 team league. All the other players have played 1-3 years of college ball, with most being around 20-years-old.

He was selected as a pitcher to the All-Star team! The game was played today at Kauffman Stadium, before the Royals vs. Angels game. What a thrill, not only to play at such a great stadium, but to be chosen along with the older, more experienced players.

BTW, he did great in his 14 pitch inning of fame! It was over too fast, but that's what parents of pitchers love to see! The stadium radar gun was on and he had the highest velocity of any of the pitchers today! It will help his confidence as he makes the step to college ball next spring.
Champions - in just their 3rd year playing in the NYCBL. For the kids that came from Alabama - and California - and Florida - and Virginia and New York - and everywhere else in between - Congrats!!!

And D - one more triple - off the top of the centerfield fence in the 3rd inning - #8 for the season. And end at .348

And that is that.

Big Grin
Part plug for Skillshow and part just being proud of my son's efforts, I thought I'd post this recent video segment from the PG National '08s at UC-Irvine. Skillshow did a great job of capturing material (final edit video will only contain pitching - no running or hitting as his future - whatever it may be - is on the mound).

4 IP, 2K's, 1BB, 2 hits, 0 ER. I'm proud of how far he's come. He still has a long way to go, and I may be his only supporter right now, but we'll just keep plugging away!!

VIDEO
That's great Krak...he's looking good...very good. You should be proud!

He's got to have more than one supporter...really.

Very nice musical accompaniment...thanks for not choosing anything rap...that wouldn't work.

I'd post some video of my boys, but my technical computer savvy is limited to a sketch pad and a box of colored pencils...the drawings of them always turn out pretty good, but when I cram them into that slot on our tower the thing starts making some weird noise...not like shredding...more like disdain...if that's possible.

I've tried mailing whatever I can pry back out from the slot to some coaches and we never hear back from them...there was one exception...a coach...from somewhere in Missouri or Iowa...actually sent us a drawing that his four year old daughter had made.

It was a scene sort of depicting what she thought the very first Thanksgiving Day gathering looked like. The coach had stapled the pieces of the drawing that I had sent him to his daughter's drawing and then he asked in the margin..."can you find the turkey?" I guess he was a better baseball coach than art critic.

Keep us posted you web wizard...in the meantime I'll keep my pencils sharpened!

My kid just got done playing in the Pacific Northwest Championships. Ten teams of 09's from five Northwest states and BC, made up of the best players in their region. Play five games over three days.

My kid caught all five games for his team, went 9 for 16, 5 BB, zero K's and was named to the all tournament team.

His team went 4-1 and placed third.
