A few years ago, I solicited many of our websters for recommendations of players to play for the Upper Deck Cougars 16 year old team which would play in the Junior Olympics in Tucscon, AZ., in 2002. Picked up a couple of kids from Episcopal in Houston, TX.

We played; had a terrific time; and, I stayed in touch with most of the kids that I assembled to make up that team.

Fast forward:

BRIAN FRIDAY, starting shortstop for Rice University, was named a First Team, All American, by Baseball America and he will lead his teammates at Rice University in Omaha at the CWS.

WILL McDANIEL, a 6'6", 220#, rhp, for Rice (boy they grow them big down there) finished the season 8-1 with a 2.50+ ERA, and will likely be used in middle relief from time to time for the Owls.

Received a call from George McDaniel, Will's dad, a day or two ago, and enjoyed reminiscing about 2002 and how these two fine young men have achieved...in the classroom and on the diamond.

You all know where my heart in at the CWS...

Go Owls!
