Hello all i was wondering what a good average gpa would be to get into a d1 school and maybe get some academic money with baseball. Some one told me 3.5.

I am no expert, this is just my understanding from talking with two recruiting coordinators from D1s, in Texas and Oklahoma.quote:Originally posted by Ryanrod23:

As you know, baseball athletic recruits are called "counters" and their aid is based on equivalencies. The minimum athletic aid a counter can receive is 25%, "athletic" money. Both schools told GED10 his athletic aid would be reduced in percentage, based on his academic aid. In other words, if he received athletic aid at 25% and earned academic aid at 30%, he would not get 55% aid, the athletic aid would go back into the baseball program. This may not be criteria in all schools in the state or any other state, just those specific schools.
Hope that helps... GED10DaD
Yes, we're seeing some of that now. Not all schools do this, but unfortunately there is no "rule" so it's up to the college or coach's discretion.quote:Originally posted by MTH:.... it is a sad fact that sometimes good grades and SAT's will actually result in a kid being offered LESS athletic money.

As long as he maintains at least a 3.0 the academic money won't count against the baseball team.

warningtrack,
The rule is, that if you get any athletic money, it must be at least 25%. He can receive no athletic money, but any amount of academic money, and that is ok.
