interesting Christmas for us.....our Army daughter can not come home for Christmas.....so we are taking Christmas to her at Fort Bragg...

so we wont have all the trappings, tree or decorations.....but we will be together.....

and thats what i wish for you all this holiday season.......to be together for the holidays...

all the best from my family to you all
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one-bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
And to see just who in this home did live.

I looked all about; a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
A sober thought came through my mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary;
I found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly

The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor in this one-bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured a United States soldier.

Was this the hero of whom I'd just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realized the families whom I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play,
And grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.
The very thought brought a tear to my eye;
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The soldier awakened, and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more,
My life is my God, my country, my Corps."

The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep;
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours, so silent and still,
And we both shivered from the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark, night,
This guardian of honor so willing to fight.
Then the soldier rolled over, and with a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa. All is secure."

One look at my watch, and I knew he was right.
"Merry christmas my friend!" And to all a good night.

Wishing all of you in this "family" that makes up the HS Baseball Web community...

A blessed Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and safe New Year.

Special prayers for the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our freedoms. My close friend's youngest son will spend his first Christmas away from his family, in the Marines. God bless and protect Aaron, and all of your sons and daughters.

Happy Holidays to all of you.

Julie
Every time I read or hear that poem about Santa and the Marine it brings sadness to my heart and pride all at the same time...

Thank you good people of the HSSBW for the gift you have shared with me and others this last year...the gift of knowledge, wisdom, patience, insight and understanding. But most of all, thank you for caring about each other's individual situations...Merry Christmas!
In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!' Big Grin ~Dave Barry, "Christmas Shopping: A Survivor's Guide"
Merry Christmas!!
wow- has it really been a year since we urged PG to reconsider his escape from the HSBBW family! Big Grin- I remember cause I was just a rookie out here back then!
happy holiday's to you all.

to all of you who's son' or daughters put themselves in harms way to protect our freedom. thank you, be safe.

i can't remeber who's tag line this belong's to. but i've found it to be so true.... "the best things in life, aren't things". funny, it took me 50 yrs and ton's of things before i figured this out. merry christmas to all.

Happy Hollidays to all of my friends on the HSBBW! It has been an amazing year for me. My oldest son and his wife gave me my first grand child in May - Molly Ann May. I can not describe how beautiful she is. And I can not begin to describe how many presents my wife has bought her for Christmas. To look in one of your childrens childs eyes , to see her smile at you and laugh is an indescribable experience.

My youngest son is now home. He is eating me out of house and home. Seriously he is eating everything in sight. He has totally disrupted my daily routine as well as my wifes. And I am loving every minute of it. It is very nice to have him home and hear his voice in person.

I miss my nephew who I am so proud of. He spent two tours in Iraq. He is on his first tour in Afghanistan. He is a Sgt and voluntered for infrantry. Two of his men were killed last week in a firefight. One was shot several times but lived. He will spend Christmas away from his wife and three daughters. He will be going back up those mountains seeking out those that need to be sought out. Man I am so proud of him. Man do I miss him. And I am so proud of him. He is doing what he was born to do.

I want each of you to have a great Holiday season. Stay safe and pray for our troops in harms way and those away from their families. Because of them and all those before them we can spend our Christmas with those we love. And we are free to spend it anyway we choose to spend it because of them.

The older I get the more I dont dislike this phrase. "Baseball is just a game." And the more I like this one "No one was ever quoted lying on their death bed saying, "I wish I would have spent more time at work and less time with my family."

Merry Christmas everyone and God Bless you.
FSM - That's WAY up north. I'm in more central NY - 25 minutes from Cooperstown. It was a balmy 7 on the way in today.

RedSox - Then you overlooked his 10-5 first half that year and an all-star bid. Second half was derailed due to a shoulder problem he hid from everyone. Plus - now he's a 4th starter and not a #1. I'll take his resume for that slot any day. I know the AL is a lot tougher, but he DID finish 4th in the NL CY Young last year.

Merry Christmas to all my web friends! It's looking like we will be snowed/iced in for the holiday;
I'm praying for safe travel for all and that you and yours are blessed with health and happiness. A shout out to the troops and workers like fire/rescue/police who are 24-7 there for us.

"Faith, hope and love are the 3 things He gave us - and the greatest is love."
Last night, my sister in law came to visit as she usually does at Christmas. Her and my brother live in Boulder, Colorado, and my brother has no interest in coming to Pontiac, I guess when you live in paradise it really makes central Illinois seem pretty boring. So as we were visiting and even knocking on my brother for avoiding his home town like the plague and sending his poor wife back home alone, out pops my brother! The excitement in the house over the whole family being together is what Christmas is really all about. (Even if our dog never did warm up to the surprise guest.)
