I second (or is it thirds or fourths, etc...) the congrats to TKD's son.
As PG stated, it truly is all about the degree. And the baseball ain't too shabby either.
I also second the kudo's to NY MOM about being the voice of reason for the Ivies. She knows of where she speaks.
BTW, I plan on going to the Harvard series so if you're there, it would be my pleasure to meet you.
The entire IVY commentary here has always been great. All of you websters with your very smart and talented boys, thank you.
NYMom...here is a nice story about a boy you are familiar with....I really enjoyed this and wanted you to see it.
Merry Christmas

Chill,
Fascinating article! I'd almost bet that the twins would make a very, very interesting case study as they continue to develop. For those who did not read the article, identical twins, one right and one left handed.
Would love to be able to follow the progress of each. Thanks.

Chill: Thanks for the article. It's great to see the guys doing so well!
Frank: Thanks as well! I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to meet the years our sons overlapped.
Happy and healthy holidays!

The Ivy process can be daunting and mysterious but in the end it really comes down to 3 things
1. Do you have the academics to be considered (grades, SAT, Academic index, EC good interview)
2. Do you have the talent to play (pitchers mid 80’s fastball, big bat, sub 6.0 speed in the 60 yd) a nose for the game are you s******
3. Can you catch a coaches eye (do you posses that intangible where he feels you are leadership material down the road, how do you act with diversity are you a team player)
There are so many talented young ball players, I believe trying too play ball at an Ivy league school is harder then getting in the first place..
Consider this: in an article written by the HC Coach of Dartmouth he claims he actively looking at 1500 players for a class of 7 recruits that’s a 0.46 % chance you will be recruited. You would have had a 13% chance in regular admissions.
“Coach for all season”

I can tell we sweat through the process until it was over never believing we were in until we saw the admissions letter
IF any one has question about the process I would be more than happy to add my 2 cents. I probably did too much thinking and research about this.
Happy Holidays to all
TKD, can you tell me about academic index...? What is it? How do you calculate it?
Thx

College Confidential is a great site for non-baseball related discussion and great resource for college information.
This link describes the AI and provides a calculator to compute. Hope this helps.

Coach Walsh is a quality person and coach.
My son was recruited by Harvard several years ago and they made it a difficult decision. He's just a really nice guy and very helpful.
Congratulation to Matt Hyde, I haven't been on the site for a while, but a loss for Harvard is a gain for the Yankees.
As for academics, Harvard is excellent. Only down side is the weather regarding baseball.

I have to agree w/ LHPMom, Coach Walsh is a wonderful man, and a fantastic baseball coach. Incredibly well respected in all baseball circles, and understands that for his players it about a lot more than just baseball!
Can't say enough about the head coach.
Joe Walsh is as good as it gets!

Any insight as to who the new Head Coach might be? Will Lo Ricco be allowed to fill the loss of a legend? Or, will they look outside?
