Well, somebody keep all sharp objects away from me. I just got word, over the phone, that West continues its horrid defense in losing to Liberty Co. Fla. 6-4. I haven't gotten official word yet, but only one of the first 4 runs were earned (at most). The score was 4-3 going to the top of the 7th. West allowed 2 more runs to score. Liberty apparently wriggled out of several jams by making solid defensive plays, in conjunction with West baserunning errors. I heard that at least 3 outs were committed on the bases, including one at home plate. My phone correspondent said that there were more than a half-dozen errors.
He also said that there's no way a team of West's "caliber" should have lost to this particular team.
I'm getting concerned that this team is sliding down a slippery slope. Pitching has been good enough to win 3 out of the 4 losses. However, the team has already made enough errors to last a season.
I'm hoping part of the problem is the boys are just not handling the combination of vacation+games.
On the bright side, I could have seen this in person. Ok, back to work.
