Cougar21,
These OLD websters on here have gotten their kids through high school (or almost) and are trying to stay young by posting on the HS boards! biglaugh No matter what your game is pre HS, HS or college, this is the place to talk Baseball.
So, back to HS baseball, Rockwood just finished their preseason tourny. They split a pair with Knox Catholic, beat Rhea Co (partially JV players), and played Cumberland Co. to a 5 inning tie. Rockwood still has 4-5 players in basketball, so a lot of new younger faces are getting playing time. Some of these younger players are making the most of their opportunities and there will be some jockeying for positions once the basketball players return to baseball.
Season starts Monday, so good luck to all and give it all you've got.

If you're looking for advice about the recruiting process, draft process, or whatever -- there's nobody better suited to share it than someone who has been through it.

Whether it's tee ball or the pro draft, the HS Baseball Web has experienced websters who can share experiences, give advice, or connect you with someone who can.

Cougar21, RHSFan has a point. Personally I'm very interested in both. RHSFan, HiwasseeVol, AdDad25, PlayersDad, myself and several others have players who are seniors in high school. Many other have sons already playing in college.

Most other college sports boards focus on football and basketball, so this forum has been a place where several of us has settled into college talk.

I love talking high school ball, too.

From your screen name and address, I assume you are associated with the Campbell County team. How are you guys looking this year? My son's West team has scrimmaged against Karns, Central, Halls, and Oak Ridge from your district, but we didn't see Campbell County.
my last post sounded like i was putting down the web site and that was not what i was trying to do. love the site and it is the first place i go when i log on.

As for the Cougar baseball team We hope we can improve from last year. We have some good players, if only we can get them to be more aggressive at the plate. It seems to me that we have two strike on us before we ever swing the bat. Defensively we should be better . We have 6 of 9 starters returning. Played in the play day at OR lost to Loudon 6 or 7 - 3 and then lost to Webb 11-2. once again we must hit the ball more to be competitive.
Cougar,
No, I went to high school about a hundred years ago at the old LaFollette High School. Have you ever heard of that school? Smile My son plays at Rockwood. The field that you have memories about is now a parking lot for Rockwood's new gym. The city built a new sports complex 6-7 years ago and built a wonderful field for the high school. 350' all the way around, major league spec lighting, grass infield, stadium seating, indoor practice facility, the whole ball of wax. The high school is very fortunate to have such great facilities.
Speaking of old fields and old memories, the baseball field at LaFollette HS (now LaFollette Middle School) had the Home Ec. Cottage sitting in left field. Campbell County's field is bound to be a much better field!

Cougar, from what I've seen, I think your district - top to bottom - will be improved from last year. I see Karns and Halls at the top again. Oak Ridge needs to get Mullins healthy and they'll be able to surprise some teams. Central is always dangerous with Bowman. Since I haven't seen Campbell Co., Powell, or Clinton, I'll have to reserve comment on those teams.

Weather permitting, West opens with Powell on Tuesday.
RHS The Cougars started Monday against the Yellow Jackets of kingston and it wasn`t much of a game till the 7th inning at least on our part. The Yellow jackets led 7 to 0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning till the cougars pushed across their first run of the game. But in the bottom of the 7th it was a different story the home team battled back to knot the game at 7 to 7. But then lost in in the eighth when the jackets pushed across 3 runs for the victory. Adam Ellison Started the game for CC and gave up 6 runs but only 3 were earned(4 errors by CC infielders. But kingston did put the ball in play. They really have a good team. The Cougars travel to Seymore Fri.
Rockwood looses a real nail biter to visiting AAA Cookeville, 9-12. The lead changed several times during the game, but Rockwood had a bad 7th inning, giving up 6 runs, that they just couldn't make up in the bottom of the inning. Rockwood led 9-6 going into the 7th, but several miscues, errors, and mental mistakes proved to be their undoing. For the most part, Rockwood hit the ball well and played a good game.
Next up:
Monday March 22, at Coalfield 5:00 pm.

I apologise in advance, but I find the high school material uninteresting unless it pertains to recruiting. Call it how it is this site and this particular forum (Tennessee) is popular because we agree to disagree. I find the basis of this site to be focused on the recruiting process (be it intended or not) Obviously as ego would have it,we are all pround of our children and would love to have some "air time" for our little angels.
spiderman,
I origionally was not going to respond to your post, but after thinking about it, I changed my mind. I do not apologize for my remarks. This thread was started by a high schooler wondering why there was not much high school talk on this 'high school baseball web'. When I first began frequenting this sight, there was high school talk. In order to encourage other high schoolers to again post, I began posting about the local high school team. I didn't realize the TENNESSEE FORUM was exclusively reserved for posts regarding UT recruiting. I read a lot of the forums and when I come across one that I am not interested in, I skip over it never stooping so low as to chastise the posters of writing material that does not interest me.
Yes, I am proud of my children, but I won't use this forum to brag on them; I merely used this thread to promote and encourage interest by the high school followers. I don't need this website or any other to promote or give 'air time' to my 'little angel'. I don't have a dog in the UT recruiting race and I really couldn't care less who UT recruits, but I won't waste other people's time posting about whether I am interested in it (or not). I will oblige you. If my posts are so uninterseting that they prompt others to complain about them and my ego, I will post no more.

Thanks Cougar21, we've known a lot of the current cougar squad for several years, we'll be keeping up with you guys. Good luck!

Spiderman, I have gone back through the posts in the Tennessee forum that are high school related. I don't know what you're talking about when you refer to "air time" for "our" little angels, and you don't know what you're talking about either. I have not mentioned my son's name in any of my posts, RHSFan has not mentioned his son's name in any of his posts, Hiwassee Vol mentioned his son's name only once in passing when giving an account of a game, and then, HV didn't mention it was his son, and gave several other names in the same post as contributors in the game. I think Bizazz mentioned his son's name once when giving a game report, and Bizazz can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that was a game in which his son took the loss as the pitcher. I saw Soup Kitchen's son's name once, but Soup was not the one that posted it, and I saw AdDad25's son's name once or twice, but he wasn't the one that posted that. So who's trying to get "air time" for their little angels? And here's some more info for you, none of these kids need any "air time", everybody knows who they are and what they're capable of. Why is it that those who know the least always say the most? Sorry guys for using all of your names and your sons, but I wanted to respond. Why do people feel the need to post c**p like that anyway?
Spidey,
My little angel went 3 for 3 today with 3 RBI's, although he doesn't look like a little angel with that red goatee!

Speaking of high school recruiting, I wonder if some of our local Tn high school signees will ever make it to their school of choice. Every ballgame I've been to this spring had multiple scouts. I've never seen anything like it and I've been advised of other players and games in our area are experiencing the same.

I talk with many of the scouts, I can't wait for this years draft.

Re: airtime. If I had the time, and opportunity, to watch more games I would gladly report on them. As it is, my experiences are limited to games I attend, which are generally games involving my son's team. It just so happens that my son plays against the sons of HiwaseeVol, SoupKitchen, AdDad25, etc. Consequently they get mentioned either directly or indirectly. Like RHSFan said, if the subject doesn't interest me, I don't bother to read it. RHSFan has a son who is a fine player, as well. But he never mentions him, he's always reporting on the team.

Unlike some towns, our high school ball doesn't get a lot of newspaper coverage. This forum is one way to communicate subject matter that is of interest to a few of us. I guess if Bob doesn't want us posting accounts of local games here, he can let us know. I try to stay objective, but will voice my opinion. I'm not going to apologize for that.
well well well, we have a spiff going eh? hey i advertise my site shamelessly, since I don't have a boy who plays (and never will - I have two precious angels, both girls) but i check just about every post regardless of what it is about. there is room for all kinds of talk, so lets get to it and if your offended over here - shoot fire come over to my boards and spout off!!! (another shameless plug)

HV,
After seeing that your "little angel" got some "air time" for going 3 for 3, I decided to tell my "little angel" to grow a goatee. I figured it might help, and it surely couldn't hurt. Then I remembered, he can't. He only shaves about twice a month. But I'll get my "little angel" some well deserved "air time" some way doggone it. Have a good trip.
Spidey,
I draw the line with earrings, actually long ago I told both boys if they ever decided they wanted earrings, they could. The only rule was that I got to pick what got pierced! biglaugh biglaugh

So far no earrings. Wink

Well, somebody keep all sharp objects away from me. I just got word, over the phone, that West continues its horrid defense in losing to Liberty Co. Fla. 6-4. I haven't gotten official word yet, but only one of the first 4 runs were earned (at most). The score was 4-3 going to the top of the 7th. West allowed 2 more runs to score. Liberty apparently wriggled out of several jams by making solid defensive plays, in conjunction with West baserunning errors. I heard that at least 3 outs were committed on the bases, including one at home plate. My phone correspondent said that there were more than a half-dozen errors. pull_hair He also said that there's no way a team of West's "caliber" should have lost to this particular team.

I'm getting concerned that this team is sliding down a slippery slope. Pitching has been good enough to win 3 out of the 4 losses. However, the team has already made enough errors to last a season.

I'm hoping part of the problem is the boys are just not handling the combination of vacation+games.

On the bright side, I could have seen this in person. Ok, back to work. kidding
Henry County has had an exciting week.

Monday night son #2 pitched 7 innings and won our 1st district game against Dickson County who I think was pre-season picked to win our district.

Robert Beard hit a walk off grand slam Tuesday night to defeat district foe Dickson County 6-3 in the seventh inning.

Last night we won 5-4 in the 12th inning against Huntingdon. Robert Beard 2 run homer.

4-0 this week after defeating Obion County 6-1.
Robert Beard hit his 3rd homer in 4 days.
Cool

Rutherford Fl 8 - West 4

According to my "correspondent": West goes into the top of the 7th with a 3-2 lead. David Zeanah pitched the first 6 allowing no earned runs. Hiles came in to close and surrendered 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning. Bradley Childs and Jon VanHoesen also pitched in the inning.

West loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th but could only push across 1 run.
West 6 - Maryville 4

Did Maryville overlook West? I don't know. I wouldn't blame them because of the way West had been playing. West jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 2 against starter Jason Bott. Jeff Smith threw effectively in relief. Maryville chipped away at the lead, but couldn't mount a consistent rally. The 5 runs were all West starter Snyder needed. Maryville sprayed some hits, but Snyder was able to make pitches when he had to. Maryville has a relentless batting order. There are no weak bats 1-9.

Snyder 6 1/3 innings 5ks, 1bb, 1hbp
Tanner Hiles comes in with 1 out in the 7th gets a strikeout and fielder's choice at 3rd to end the game and get the save.

Huge win for West. They need to stay focused for Sevier Co. tomorrow.
