My son's team plays Tuesday in the state semifinals after a nailbiter 2-1 win Friday. Interesting moments in the game:

Sixth inning, our starter ran into trouble after blanking them for five. One run already in (tying the game) and runners on second and third, nobody out. We put our ace in to relieve, and he gets two ground balls straight at the drawn-in shortstop, then a strikeout. No more runs scored.

We won it in the seventh on a walkoff bases-loaded one out single.

So now I am hoping my son's high school baseball career has two more games, not just one!
Last Friday night my son played in the Washington State semi final at Safeco field in Seattle he is a Sophomore Catcher on a team that has had great success. After an 0 for 2 start in his third at bat he ran the count to 3-2 and crushed a fastball into the left field seats curling around the foulpole for one of the best moments a parent could ever imagine. After the game when he was interviewed he said it was the greatest moment for him on a baseball field. For me " PRICELESS"

If i could figure out how to attach the video i would, if you would like to see it go to washington sportsnetwork.com it is the first video Puyallup HR

Matt Taylor LHP/OF, finished the year 14-1, with 109k's and 1.2era (74inn): batted 450 with 8 hrs, 46rbi.
Matt's career record at Columbus is 30-5.
He was undefeated in the state playoffs, including a first game victory in the state finals over Donavan Tate's Cartersville Ga team, allowing only 2 hits and 8k's through 6 innings. He also stole home in the 1st inn. in Game 3.
Columbus High School, Columbus, Ga.
Columbus lost the final game in the state playoffs to finish 2nd after being ranked as high as 3rd nationally. Team finished 33-4.
No joy in Mudville. The boys lost in the district final and last weekend they lost in the state quarterfinal. It was a fun ride. The younger guys got a taste and now want to go back again next year. For the seniors it was over too quick, especially for those not planning on playing next year. It was hard for some knowing that it was their last game.
Congratulations are due the following teams:

Mamaroneck HS, NY----won their second straight State Championship this past weekend---we had the pleasure of having a few of their team members with us this past fall on our College Select Tavel Team: Sean Hagan, Eric Windsor, Taylor Mondshein, Mike Rosenfeld

Dobbs Ferry HS, NY --- lost in the State Finals---Sean LaFaye was a regular with us this past fall

Seton Central HS,NY--- made it to the State semifinals---Nate Jones was aregular with us this past fall

Churchville-Chili HS, NY---Won their sections---Dan Erne was with us this past fall. LHP Jordan Eich was the MVP and he is expected to be joining us for the Fall season.

Way to go guys !!!
Anybody playing summer ball?

We've been playing twice a week DH's. Being with a small school, we ended up a a league playing bigger schools JV and incoming Freshman (I'd forgotten how small some 14u players can be Smile).

My son is working himself back into pitching and both the command and velocity are coming back. I see a lot of posts where players state that their son's are 'playing up'. Well mine is probably 'playing down' (along with 4-5 of his teammates) as an incoming junior but our sophmores and freshman are getting a chance to show what they can do and he can work on his pitching without the ball rocketing all over the field...
I am playing for a 14u team out of Johnson City,TN, the same team I played for last season. If thats what your talking about.

I stopped posting after I lost my starting spot on JV. I had one bad game(the Richlands game I posted about on here earlier) went 0-4 with 2 Ks and 2 groundouts. Next game was DHed, next game I was benched. I started only 2 more games afterwards, he messed up my swing completely and my confidence was lost. The 2 games I started I did not play well fielding wise. I was 2-4 hitting. We finished 8-8.

Right now I have played 4 tournaments this season and 9 league games, I have 2 errors in 25 games. I still don't have my confidence back, once again I am not hitting well.I've hit from the bottom of the lineup practically all summer. There is really not much to say, I am disappointed with how I have played. Just try and pick it up.

Stay the course. 14u was tough for my son too. It's the year you run into a lot of already mature players and if you're a little bit of a late bloomer it can be daunting. You'll catch up, just keep working on your skills.

Good Luck.

We won two more last night. Son was happier with his pitching but still thinks he's leaving too many pitches 'up' to be effective against better hitters.

I really believe this years competition is probably tougher than last seasons. Although we are playing alot of the same teams, some have really improved. I have realized this year more than last year that errors, mistakes, and/or lack of knowledge comes back to bite you. We had 3 errors and a baserunning blunder last weekend to a team that NEVER gives up, beat us 6-5. Just shows everything can cost you.

First experience with HS summer ball. They don't have an incoming Freshman team, but the incoming sophomores had a need for players and my son got the call. Interesting. I don't think many of the kids are going to be playing ball next spring, they have 2 JV teams, incoming sophs and incoming juniors. 30 kids for 15 or so spots plus any transfers or late bloomers that always show up. My kid is leading the team in at'em balls. It is driving him crazy.

Gonna be tough come cut day next spring for a lot of kids.
Hawk,
Both actually. But errors behind him never bother him much. He has played on some pretty poor defensive teams.
He hates the line drives at outfielders. He has a bunch. He is also leading the team in HBP. And he never crowds the plate. 12 HBP in 14 games. He asked me after the last game yesterday if he is doing something to get hit. He also wanted to know if HS is always like this. He has seams all over his body.
