son lost league game for first time since he was a soph. The senior lefty had 11 straight HS league wins over two years. He lost 1-0 on a third inning bases loaded 1 out gound ball back to him on the mound that he caught clean with plenty of time for the 1-2-3 DP but bounced the throw to the catcher allowing an unearned run . So he gets the loss but his ERA goes from 0.41 to 0.29! crazy Has pitched 24 innings with 1 earned run. team is 9-3 and need 1 more victory in the last six games to qualify for playoffs. BTW- went out this evening with buddies for pitcher fielding practice. I asked how did it go, he said great- made nice throws from mound to first. I said "wonderful, so next time the guy is coming home, you will have a perfect throw to the wrong bag!" Big Grin Aww- i gotta bust on him a little! LOL!

24 had his second start of the year, a CG, 10-0 win over a cross town rival. First time this year the opposing team was shut out. Not as clean as his last start, he struggled at times with his command: 2 hits, 7k, 4bb, 82 pitches. Did not have his good hard curve, but his fb velocity was good and got the K when he needed it. His line so far this year: 11.2 IP, 5 hits, 9K, 1 run, 1 er. He only starts occasionally as he is the #3 pitcher

His team needed him to eat innings as they had a wild 13-11 9 inning win on Friday, and had to play later as well.

Was an enjoyable day later as well as the team had a walk off double by a freshman in the 10th inning to complete a game that was suspended by rain. They had to come back, down a run, with two outs in the bottom of the 10th on a dropped third strike with two on to set the stage for the 2 rbi game winning hit.

24's team is now 11-1. He is fortunate to be a part of this team with solid players and great coaches.
Son's team has won 10 in a row, whole team is playing well all around. Son has had good week at plate 5-11, 6 or 7 rbis, pitched 3 innings and got 2nd win since moving up (5-0 overall), 4 k's, 0 walks (stat I love the most only 4 walks in 17 innings), 2 hits (1 was monster home run in 1st inning--but he struck out next 2 batters). Has played a solid 3rd base no E so far this year .
Most importantly he is having fun!
Son got out of the doghouse. Not sure why he was in it. He had six ribbies in the last two games to lead the team to two victories. Saturday night the team ace, the team spritual leader (love those program seniors who are willing to be bench players and leaders) and a girlfriend on the way to a team party (very close knit team) were peeled out of a car with the jaws of life and rushed by helicopter to various hospitals. They lived through the night and are scheduled for several surgeries this week for some serious injuries. Last night was a long night for a lot of people.

The team is in first with the last two wins. Hopefully the adversity will pull the team even tighter and they'll find a way to hold on to first. Most importantly the three kids are expected to eventually return to normal. Hopefully the pitcher will be able to pitch again. He was headed for a solid D3 program.

That is really ashame to hear. Keep us posted on their recovery.

I am scared to death of teenagers driving, especially with others in the car. My son is 14 and I am dreading him getting his license as it gradually approaches, as well as him riding in a car with other teenagers. But it's a process that all of us as parents have to go through.

Same here- son just starting to drive. I always tell him not to set his speed for what he can see, but drive for what he cant see- ie a kid walking between cars , someone running a light, someone turning last minute without a signal etc. Anticipate the non-obvious and drive smart.

Hope all recover quickly RJM.
We finished our league play on a high note winning 14-4 and got the #2 seed for our region. Our #2 pitcher injured himself in practice so my son had to fill in. Managed to keep the other team off the scoreboard for four innings until he ran out of gas in the 5th (it is only his second start this season) but we were already up 13-0 before two hits, a BB and an error gave them three unearned runs. #2 should be ready to go for state since it doesn't start for a couple of weeks....
The team lost today. They were up for the game. The other team was just a little better today. An impartial fan would have seen a fantastic 2-0 pitching duel. Us partial people saw a tough loss with the tying runs left on base.

The players seem to be ok since they know their teammates and friend are supposed to be ok eventually. They hung out together Sunday. They were offered group counseling this morning. Before they left the locker room they were told today's surgeries were all successful. There are more surgeries required. It's going to be a long journey.

Talk about fate. Mom let them take her new car with wall to wall airbags. Had they taken the kid's old clunker this story probably would have had an awful ending. Picture a new unrecognizable car. The tree is still standing.

You have to love the dad. After all he's been through when he called the coach with the medical updates, he said his son was unable to pitch today since he would have trouble pushing off the rubber.

RJM,

Glad to hear that all the kids will make it through this terrible accident. That's really something about the car. Sometimes we think that fate is cruel, but when we really look at it, perhaps we are lucky after all.

I'm sure that was a tough loss under the circumstances. But the great thing about baseball is you get to play again, and fortunately those 3 kids will be around to hear about. Good luck to those kids and the team.
RJM, I'm really sorry to read about the accident. I'm glad to know they will eventually be OK. Also glad that Jr. is out of the doghouse.

Congratulations, Hawk19 and bbmallman!

This has been an amazing few days. One of the common threads on this site is to "relax and enjoy the ride."
Well, we are enjoying it. 2B has been named Player of the Game his last two games. Last night, in the first game of our district tournament, he went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, one of which was a walk-off game winner in the bottom of the sixth that made the score 12-2.

Tonight we play in the semifinal game against a pretty tough team that we split with over the season. It should be fun!
Son was winning pitcher in the conference clincher last Friday. 3 1/3 IP, couple of hits, four BB's (pitched around their stud a couple of times), 1 ER. Came in down 5-3 in the 5th, went home a winner in 8.

He was a little loose, but got it done in front of a hostile crowd. They no longer refer to him as 'the freshman'.

Playoffs start Saturday at 11am if the flu bug doesn't bite. He's been told he'll close games. If he's closing games in the 5A-I, I need heart medication...

It was a typical week for Kremer, who is batting .511 and has a .657 on-base percentage with three home runs and 10 doubles this season.

WOW!!! Eek
That is fantastic.

JMoff, that is great. Congratulations to your son.

We lost a heartbreaker last night. Our biggest district rival came back in the bottom of the 7th to win the District Championshiop, 3-2. Runners up again. Frown The bright spot was our freshman pitcher, a lefty who pitched a complete game and is going to be really good in the years to come.

We're not done yet, though. We play at regionals next week, against the same team that knocked us out last year. So I hope we keep on playing!

2B is on a tear. 13 for his last 15 with 7 doubles and 2 game winning RBIs. I don't know how long it can possibly last, but I just keep giving him 3 eggs, bacon, and toast with raspberry preserves on game days. Smile
Freshman son started for JV season(also went up with varsity for 2 tourneys), the JV team had a great season and won 15 out of 18 games. Son did well, pitched 5 games and went 4-1, hit .481 and had 19 walks, played outfield just about every game with the exception of when he pitched. All in all it was a great season for all players. To top it all off our varsity team won region and called up son and 5 other JV players for conference and state tournaments(what an honor even if he doesn't get to play). I hope Varsity does well at state, they have worked so hard this season. Proud of each and every player on both JV and Varsity.
This past week was another one of highs and lows.

First, the low: On Tuesday the Soph team played one of their closest rivals. 27 pitched a good game, but the defense was off, and they lost 7-5 behind 10 errors. Thursday was the rematch and the defense was clicking. The Soph team won 11-1 in 5 innings.

Friday was the JV game against the same school. 10-2 victory, with 27 pitching 2 innings, facing 7, and striking out 6.

Our Varsity squad lost a couple of heart-breakers to the same school...effectively knocking them out of the state playoffs.
Rained out all week played make-up friday--won 20-6 and winning 9-0 in 4th of to be continued (conf. make-up). Team agian played well will face biggest rival next week in showdown should be great. Son has continued playing well since call-up. Was 3-6 with 4 rbis. Has played a solid 3b (no e all year) and has pitched well. He is really enjoying his high school team. The team has a great group of young men and the coaches have been terrific. Team is 18-6 I believe and won 11 in a row.
Haven't said much about son lately - but it is all good. 2 varsity wins and 3 JV. (He has no losses, but 2 ties -jv) He is batting around .300 with several doubles. It's been an odd season and the rain outs haven't helped with continuity.

Last week of regular season, looking forward to playoffs.
sophmore catcher son was starting varsity catcher, got benched from starting line up for slamming his helmet down after making a bad throw. ended up ok though team was losing 8 to 6 in the fourth. son entered game, relief pitcher held the team scoreless, we won 12 to 8, son went 1 for 2 with a rbi and scored. I hope he learned his lesson.
Well, season's over for us. Last game, played the #2 team in the region. Bballson came in in the 6th with score tied. Game went into the 9th with us up by one. He gave up 4 singles to lose the game. Tough one to lose. I think pitch calling was suspect again - too many fastballs that inning. Anyway, tough way to end the season, but hopefully many lessons learned.

He ended up 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA on the year. Also just found out today that he made 2nd team All-Region team as a pitcher. Overall it was a good experience for the frosh pitcher.

Now it's time to focus on the summer team. For him, it may be less of a challenge than the HS season, but we'll be playing up, so it should be challenging enough.
bballman, sorry to learn about the loss, but it seems like it has been a challenging and hopefully rewarding season for your son. I hope he has a great summer.

Congratulations to everyone on their hard work. success, and yes even failure and lessons learned. Smile What a game our boys play.

Tonight we play in the regional quarterfinals against a good team that knocked us out last year. Go Blue Wave!
bballman,
Great season! Too bad you couldn't take down Kell the last game as that would have given Roswell 2nd in the standings. How much down time before summer ball starts? How high up are you playing? Is it mostly local or is it all over the country. Our season will be over next week and plan on some downtime before starting lessons.
Man, I really wanted to take them down. We had our shot, but gotta give them props. They did what they needed to win.

I know we are playing in a tournament at East Cobb March 15th thru the 17th. We're a 15u team playing in the 16u tournament. It's a Triple Crown event and he is playing on the Georgia Hurricanes. I really think we should have a very strong, very deep team. Looking forward to the season.

We are playing locally and regionally. I know we are playing in several local tournaments as well as some showcases in South and North Carolina. We've got showcase tournaments at University of South Carolina, College of Charleston and Wake Forest. Other than that, I believe we're local. We may have another national tournament, but I'm not sure yet.
Season update: Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day. The team hasn't played in a week. They now have six days to get in four games with rain forecasted four of those six days. It didn't rain today (drizzle now qualifies as not raining). But the fields are too saturated after five days of rain. The team needs to win all four to finish first. With injuries and a pitcher quitting if they win the first two my son will make his first varsity pitching appearance with the season on the line. I hope he pitches as well as he's hit and fielded. He's been the hottest hitter on the team since the coach stopped DH'ing for him.
