Hi, LTDad. No, 2B plays for PK Yonge. The catcher for GHS is on his travel team, though. Smile Good luck today!

I should say the player that I assume will be the starting catcher for GHS plays for my son's travel team. It's preseason so who knows. Wink Anyway, it's a beautiful day for baseball in Gainesville!

Won 6-3 last night. Defense looked pretty tight, hitting was timely, and 2B started right where he left off last year. Smile

The best part was a play at the plate. 2B was on 3rd. Our hitter flew out to center, 2B headed for home. CF threw a bullet to the catcher. The ball gets there before 2B, but as the catcher bent down to catch it, 2B sort of somersaulted over him and landed on his feet, right on home plate! Safe!

It's going to be a fun season. I'm hoping the snow melts for everyone very soon!
Sophomore son was released by his doctors after tearing his ACL for the last JV game of last season. The varsity coached watched and put him on the varsity playoff roster the next day. Our first day of tryouts is 2-28. The coach ordered new varsity uniforms last week and asked him what number he wanted. He gave him his bullpen schedule last night and told him to get ready he has opening day. I guess he made it, or rather will make it.

First scrimmage was everything I expected it would be! Defensive errors / defensive web gems. Struggling pitching / dominating pitching. Happy coaches / snarling coaches. Bonehead base running / aggressive base stealing. Blown pick offs / ring em up pick offs. I loved every moment of it!
Home opener last night. The team looks great!

--paragraph deleted--kind of embarrassing to come across as that grumpy! Razz

We won 16-1 in four innings. It was painful to watch. I played every upbeat song I could dig up between innings, I even dug out YMCA! The mood stayed pretty light, even among the fans of the opposing team.

My one guilty pleasure... our non-starters were in on defense, our pitcher was getting tired. Bases loaded, two outs in the top of the 4th. The mercy rule is 15 after 4. Coach calls 2B in to pitch to the next batter. "Strike this guy out and let's all go home." During his warm-up, I played Voodoo Chile Blues. 3 pitches. Game over. Big Grin

Very funny - loved that post Big Grin

What made you grumpy btw?
Oh, okay... Big Grin

I was getting ready for the game. Some announcers don't take it seriously, but I do. I like to pronounce everyone's names correctly, have all the numbers and positions, coaches names, umpires names, all that stuff put into my script so that I can give our lineup my usual WWE flair! Most importantly I like to have just the right music playing and the walk-up songs lined up on the brand new speakers that 2Bdad and I donated this year! It was the first game, so I was a little nervous and wanted everything to be perfect.

Infield-outfield had already started, and I was hurrying back to the press box with the visiting lineup in my hand. One of the moms on the opposing team attempted to stop me to see the lineup so that she could see whether her son was starting. Sheesh. I told her she'd have to wait!

That made me grumpy. Big Grin

But I wasn't grumpy for long.

Our first game is in two weeks. We just got our winter sports athletes released to us Saturday. They make up almost half of the V and JV teams. We have had amazing weather for the last 6 weeks or so - now it is forcast to rain for most of the next two weeks. No indoor facility to practice in. cry

2bmom - on a brighter note, we're supposed to have music for the first time this year.

I wonder where 2B Jr gets that fiery competitive spirit that drives him to excel? Confused

My sons first game of the season and home opener will be on March 4th. My son is a 2013 player and is on varsity.

My wife passed away in October from cancer and the team will be honoring her with a moment of silence before the game and I will be throwing out the first pitch. The team will be wearing my wifes initials on their sleeve the entire season. The team and boosters have been awesome and I am happy for my son to feel the love from the team in this difficult time. I am ready for the season to start to help my son refocus.

Good luck to all.
vladfan,
My two sons lost their mother to cancer 6 years ago to a long battle with cancer. The town and their teammates were a great support system for them at such a young age. By keeping them active with travel ball and giving them structure in practicing, they learned to not dwell on their loss but focus on positives that would make their mother proud. I believe had they not had a goal for becoming good players and a path toward playing in college, they might have had alot more problems with their free time. God bless you and your family and best of luck with your son's upcoming season and baseball future.
First JV game was last weekend. Tied 5-5 after 8 innings. Boys played well, with no errors in the field. Would have won if a few of our guys would have thrown strikes. Oh well, that is to be expected for JV this early in the season. Doubleheader sked for this saturday with 80 degree temps expected (Just wanted to rub that in a bit for the folks up north...sorry :-)

On the other hand, Varsity is off to a great start at 3-0. Won their pool in the Saladino Tournament and will be moving on to bracket play later this spring. Things are looking good for the program so far!
Some highlights from our weekend double header. We swept a very good team, and it was fun. Game 1 was close. No commentary needed on this clip.
Game 1

In game 2, they ran out of pitching. We were up 13-3 and the dugout was pretty loose. 2B's nickname is Jubs. About 6 seconds in, you can hear put it in the jubadub tub! and I can't stop laughing, especially with the other sound effects.

I hope all of you have this much fun this season!

Well, we finally played our 1st regular season game last night. Won 9-6 in 8 innings on a walk off 3 run HR by our stud SS who is going to Clemson.

Bballson got the start. Went 5 innings, 9 K's, 1BB, 2HBP, 4 hits, 2 runs. Left with a 4-2 lead, but didn't get the win. Not a bad start to the season. As usual, the two runs scored were one of the HBP and the BB. The HBP that scored was actually a pretty cheap HBP. He threw a CB at the batter, the batter ducked his head right into the strike zone to get out of the way and the pitch broke in and hit him in the head. Should have been a strike.

Oh well. It was a pretty exciting end. Walk offs are always fun. Play again Friday and Saturday.
