Missouri - Offseason S&C starts Monday. Tryouts around March 1st. Season starts mid-March. Nothing to get excited about yet except we haven't received any snow yet this year! Temps mild in the 50's and 60's for last week or so.

I'm sure there is more excitement in the warmer weather states who will be starting soon. Good luck to all!
You bet! Our son's HS just hired a coach in November. He is from Texas, so has seen no one play. They have been conditioning, but the 16th is everyone's first day. He told the boys that they all start from the same spot, whether they have been 3 year lettermen or never made the HS team. I think that's great. We only have 3 players returning from varsity, and JV has never been developed-- so there is alot of work ahead. But I think the kids, parents, and parts of the community are excited. Laura-- they have a HS field work day Saturday and son really thinks he should be there, so we'll be coming F and Su. We won't have the best team by far, but our field has never looked so good-- and it's January!
Northeast TN- We have been lifting weights twice per week, throwing, throwing bullpens (Monday of Thanksgiving week), and running since November 1st. We are also now in the "Open Facilities" period also, which means players can work on defense and offense, but we coaches cannot instruct. The first practice is Monday, February 13th.
Our tryouts begin January 30th. My son is a senior, so my perspective has changed since years past. Prior to this year, I couldn't wait for the season to begin. Seemed like it took forever to get here. This year, I almost don't want it to get here because before I know it, his HS career will be over. It's sad in a way. I am looking forward to it once it gets here, but I'm in no rush this year.

Fortunately, bballson will be playing college ball, so the journey won't end yet. But HS ball has been such a special time, it's hard to imagine it ending. I'm pretty lucky that his college is only 2 hours away, so I will be able to go to games once he starts there, but there has been nothing like HS ball. Hopefully, he will do well senior year even though he already has college wrapped up. I think he will. He's too competitive to take it easy.

Good luck to all this year.
Wisconsin players can get together in early March.Season will start 10 days after the 1st practice. Going to be interesting to see if the HS coaches modify their game with the new BBCOR bats. Some of Lodi14 jr's teammates have not even swung a BBCOR yet.Going to be interesting. Jr is going to use wood this season.Plays all summer and fall with it ,so what the heck
Well it is snowing here today....so I guess it is a good thing that the season here in NH doesn't start officially until March 19th with tryouts. Scrimmages usually occur following week. Son is raring to go after missing all of his sophomore year to injury recovery. Unofficial Captain's workouts should start in the next week or two.

Tryouts in July? How does that work, exactly? By the first day of school, is the starting rotation and starting lineup already set? Wouldnt incoming Freshmen still be playing 14U ball and that get in the way? What about if the other classes are still doing travel tournaments that could affect their ability to tryout? What if I move into your school district next week? Is my son out of luck or can he still tryout? And if he can still tryout, what happens if he ends up being your best pitcher and player, do they cut a kid?

Dont think I am slamming you, or that you have to answer every question. I'm trying to put this with my son's school team and dont know how tryouts 8 months before the games start can be benefitial.
In Missouri, tryouts start February 27th, with the first tournament March 16th.

Varsity coach has had the guys he sees as varsity material going to a local facility Wednesday afternoon to work on hitting and a little bit of throwing. No coaches are present, just some of the guys. He has been doing this since football ended. First of February, when basketball dies down, they do open gym two nights a week until tryouts. They have weightlifting classes which the coach teaches, so he steers the boys into that class, so there is no meeting before or after school to lift. Also, it seems the core guys play for travel/select teams that started working out in November, so he isnt really too concerned with pens and such. He knows my son is working out with his summer team, along with the other guys so he is not concerned with him getting his work in. son says the coach is talking to him everyday about how it is going and that he asks the other guys also.

Then February 27th, travel training stops and high schools starts.

That's one thing I don't miss about HS baseball in Michigan. It starts so late.

The one thing I do miss is the ability to play more than one sport in Texas vs. Michigan. The nice thing about MI is that the next sport doesn't start until the current one has ended. For example, basketball in TX overlaps baseball by two weeks. A bit longer if you are on varsity and the team is good. (#1 in the state this year and last) My son loves basketball and baseball. He will have to make a choice during his sophomore year.

Where in Macomb County are in you in. We moved here from Clinton TWP back in 2006. My son is a 2015 and last played for the 9u Macomb Mudhens.
We also have summer tryouts for our HS teams. This is not positional it is simply to make the team. We also have a "makeup tryout" Jan 30th for any new transfers, players that were injured or anyone missing tryouts due to other school activities, church missionary trips, etc. Positions are worked for during the official practice which begins on January 30th and don't really "set" until first game mid February. We are in Alabama so we are not allowed to have more than 5 players on any same team during a school year (fall baseball) or after school baseball ends for us until School is out. We also are not allowed to begin our throwing season until January 9th and our full practices can begin January 30th.
Tryouts and practice started yesterday in Georgia & Alabama. Games can begin on the 20th. I will still take in 2 or 3 select games at PrimeJr's High School.

Can't get it out of my blood. Also, they just built a new complex that puts many colleges to shame. And the weather; 61 yesterday, 65 and sunny today. Mother Nature must like baseball, in the south, as well..

Son's team had their first game of his senior season Monday. Nice to see him on the mound getting the win with timely hitting, relief pitching, and defense from his team.

I have been told by parents how fast time goes in high school, especially the senior year and it is so true. This year has flown by, hard to believe graduation is in less than four months.
