Roberson No Longer HP Baseball Coach

Highland Park varsity baseball head coach Sam Roberson was relieved of his duties on Tuesday after the Scots were swept by Rockwall-Heath in the regional quarterfinals last week.

“I think it’s just a difference in philosophy,” HP boys athletic director Randy Allen said.

Roberson, whose contract was extended by two seasons earlier this year, said he isn’t sure if he will take the reassignment or will resign.

Roberson was head coach of the Scots for three seasons after serving as junior varsity coach for two years and a varsity assistant coach for seven years. In his three seasons as head coach, Roberson was 91-32. He led HP to the regional finals in his first season, the regional semifinals last year, and the regional quarterfinals this season.
based on the talent he has had there over the last three years, this was probably his best season. most of the parents didn't want him to get the job in the first place. he had been an asst for several years so they moved him into the HC position when it opened up. your right though doubleday, with that record he won't be unemployed for long.
You guys have no idea (and best to just let it be at that) but it had nothing to do with playing time. Wish the best to all parties including Coach Roberson and what he did for the program. Hopefully this can be a win-win for everyone.

HP should have announcement on new staff by mid-month if not sooner if what I'm hearing is true. Need both head and assistant varsity coach and maybe freshman caoch as well. Heck we'll be lucky to even have a program. We'll just do the best we can and see what happens. Poor ol' HP.
Ten years after he replaced legendary Monterey baseball coach Bobby Moegle, Fred Oliver is leaving the Plainsmen to take over the head coaching position at Dallas Highland Park, The Avalanche-Journal learned Monday from multiple sources.

Oliver could not be reached after several calls were made to his cell phone Monday night.

Sources told The A-J that Oliver met with the Monterey baseball players Monday night to inform them that he had accepted the position at Highland Park earlier in the day.

His hire is pending school board approval today.

True... true.

Back in the day, GED10 went to all of his camps... winter and summer, from age seven. Then he helped the graduated SR's coach the young kids when he could no longer go to camp. GED10 grew-up with everything he owned in his closet columbia blue and red!

I coached most of the kids on his sub-varsity teams. They are good boys, they will do well with whomever they get.

Maybe coach Kinzy will come back, or Coach Eckles. Maybe Coach Morris will have a shot, but I think it will be an older/established guy. Probably not Coach Webster, as he's already gone cross-town from LHS to Coronado 3 years ago.

Really, it was time. They were swept by us 0-2 this year, and we were 3-2 the last two years, not a good record against Old Lubbock High!

Plus they lost alot of games to Coronado too, the past few years.

I wish him well...... GED10DaD

seriously doubtful that kinzy is going anywhere. he has a boatload of talent coming into his varsity program over the next 1-3 years, and his son will be a freshman next year. plus- they have really connected well in the area...........but i guess you just never know!! we all will in just a few weeks.............or maybe even days.
