SEEMS COACH BANDO WAS NOTGETTING THETHE TOP KIDS
HE WAS GOING AFTER SO HE GOT TOP PLAYERS FROM
ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.NEXT YEAR MAYBE THE N.C.
PLAYERS WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING SOMEPLACE
ELSE.EVERY ONE OF THE PLAYERS COMING IN WERE
HIGHLY RATED BY B.A.AND P.G.AND RECRUITED BY A
LOT OF BIG SCHOOLS.
THE REASON I DIDN'T NAME ALL THE PLAYERS IS THAT
SOME WHO COMMITTED WILL NOT SIGN TILL THE LATE
SIGNING PERIOD FOR DIFFERENT REASONS.
ALSO,THERE MAY BE ANOTHER BIG PLAYER ADDED TO
THIS LIST BEFORE TOO LONG.BANDO'S NOT FINISHED.
YOU HAVE TO WIN ON THE FIELD,NOT ON PAPER.BUT
THIS IS A HECK OF A START.

It does seem that the coaches at High Point take their recruiting up north, you rarely hear of many NC players going there. High Point is a good school and could attract NC players under different circumstances. In no way is this to knock the High Point Program, you recruit wjere you feel you as a coach can get the best players available.

It is interesting the approach that High Point has taken. It will probably be successful in the short term. I make this statement as comparing it Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. They did this for years and proved benefical as long as the "north" talent pool remained strong, but in dueing so, they allienated the local and in-state talent, to the point that there program has deterioated. (See Virgina Forum for thread).

On the other hand, University of Richmond almost excussively recruits out of State and they have a very succesfull program.

Only time will tell.
High Point has recently moved from DII to DI. They will have to establish a track record before they can compete in-state for the top players like the established programs.

I am sure that they have the desire to recruit locally. They held a showcase there this fall that was attended by Impact Baseball, the On Deck O's and the NC Red Sox Scout Team so they are looking at in-state players.

The players who they are interested in are the same players that Elon, WCU and UNC-W (for example) are sucessfully recruiting. Give them time to catch up.
All are very good points!! My apologies for implying that Florida is in the North. A major faux pas for a history teacher, pull_hair huh?

I will agree that as they move to DI that they need to start somewhere. I would hate to see any NC coaches alienated because of the perception that a school doesnt want to recruit local talent, but who says that the talent actually wants to stay local.

i am sure that highpoint wants, and will get the
local talent.next year when they win they will
then get the opportunity to possibly get some
n.c. kids.
you do have to go recruit where you have networking.bando will make this a ranked program
cause he has contacts and can evaluate talent.
he is also very well liked.
also,i'm sure coach bando would'nt mind hearing
from top players who haven't committed as of yet
[out-of-state and especially north carolina]
Coach Bando has a plan in place for HPU! It will take some time, But I think he will succeed. I agree he will get some NC kids once he gets the program where he wants it. HPU has alot of quality schools to compete with recruiting NC kids. Basically they are the new kids on the block. He does not have them (NC kids)from a lack of trying. He scouts all the showcases along the East Coast. I have alot of respect for him and wish the program well!

I have to say that that would defoinitely help their recruiting in NC. There are definitely many players in NC that would be better suited to an atmosphere like HPU, but one overriding factor is private school costs vs. public (state) universities. Also factor in the facts that some smaller schools in NC (D-2 and 3) offer better incentive and financial aid packages because there are fewer restrictions than at the D-1 level. Money is available at these schools because they are rarely filled to capacity.

also a big reason nc players are hesitant to go there is the money. it is expensive in comparison to the state schools. where it cost about the same for the people from up north. look at a lot of your private schools and you will see a big population from up north. not just players but the whole student body.

Catamount-
You are absolutely right. From my experience I have seen that out of state tuition in NC can be a better deal that in-state in colleges up north, so it would be enticing for not just a player but astudent to come to "God's Country" biglaugh wouldn't it???

I would imagine that most of these programs have private endowments to fund their allotted number of athletic grants or provide other privately funded "need" grants as a means of getting the athletes they want in the sports that are their top priority, the sports they are the most nationally competitive.

Does that make sense?

thanks
wnyskip,
since i think i know who you are and i think you
are trying to bag me on schwartz,i will be glad
to tell you who i am and set you straight as to
what i do[i do think you already know who i am
already]
i am a coach for many years of a fla.competitive
team.we use to play in the summer and fall but
the last few years we only play a few tourn.in
the fall.i have been helping players[free of
charge]for the past 8 years with going to college.over 70 of the kids are playing in college now[many different schools, not just
highpoint].i recommend kids to schools that i
feel would be good for them[this can be checked
out by many college coaches].i also am a parent.
i think you have something to do with binghamton
one of the coaches or something and are upset at
losing schwartz.call me and i will be happy to
discuss it with you privately.
and yes,i do know a little about the highpoint
program since a number of the top players that
are committed there played for me.
p.s.,i never spoke to randy schwartz.
yobo

i don't have anything to do with binghamton ... i just happened to meet one of the coaches at a showcase and started talking (seemed like a really nice guy who is working hard to develop a division I program).

i know they were excited to have a kid like schwartz coming to their place, but sometimes you lose kids for whatever reasons.

i do know some kids, however, like i said in my last post who are division I kids looking for a place.
if you are for real and have some prospects you
would like me to help, that would be fine.i can't
help them directly with highpoint but have other
schools still looking for 04's.contact me privately or call me[get my tel.# from private].

if they are for highpoint, you have to contact
the coaches directly,not thru me.
thank you

p.s.-if you are really mike collins,i would not
think it's smart to contact
