TPM,
Do not take offense to this, but we, on the west coast had to deal with the timing of the World Series while many of us were still working or coming while it was on at prime time on the east coast. Now the same thing happens to us again with the opening game of the season for a team we have supported since 1958. Yes, ESPN didn't schedule this game MLB did, but we were being told that that it was looking at changing the game to S.F. about 2 months ago and would be played at 7pm. Personally I do feel the T.V. stations had a hand in the schedule not being changed.

But adding insult to injury, it was played in L.A. Sorry Dodger fans in SoCal, it's our first time in 53 years, you've been there before. (just kidding)
Bottom line, you guys just live in the wrong time zone. Razz

My point is that for me, I would have much rather watched the yankees or the cardinals @ 7 or 8pm est, although the west coast game was pretty good. I see your point, amd I am sure the weather factor had a lot to do with who came first yesterday. And keep in mind us east coasters (and those in central) were at work when those games were on.

Hey, I hear STL wants to make it a national holiday for home opening game, no school, businesses closed, now that's an idea for sure!

Not sure I get the point, if you all were at work or coming home from work, you couldn't have watched any game. Big Grin

My advice, call in sick on opening day! Smile

Actually, I was coming home from my son's college game about 40 miles away which started at 2:30 so I left at the end of the game a little after 5. Listened to it on the radio which was better than then the announcers from ESPN.

Do like the idea of the national holiday for opening day, but for me it doesn't matter now that I'm retired.

As for the wrong coast, we drive to the snow don't have to shovel it to find the car. Don't remember ever having hurricanes. Yes, we have earthquakes but that just gets rid of the people that over crowds the state, they move away real quick.

ESPN had everything to do with the timing of the game. They always do!

As for STL people wanting it to be a holiday, they might as well. Nothing gets done in the STL on Opening Day. One local TV station started coverage at 4:30AM and had coverage most of the morning I believe almost right up until first pitch. Of course, then the game was on FSN and blacked-out over on ESPN. At work, we couldn't get FSN and we couldn't get the game on the radio because our radio does not transmit very well at all. And of course the local radio station is not allowed to broadcast the game on their website; you have to purchase the audio package through MLB Frown

Many sports events don't come on until late on the east coast to accommodate the west coast. It sucks having World Series games end at 12:30am along with other sports events. You'll just have to deal with it during the regular season. With a DVR and ESPN3.com what's the problem?
