When the first killed the program they said it took $700k to run it. My question at the time was was the $700k the total operating expense or the net expense after considering the incoming revenue from the players and the money given out on schollys? Meaning did they consider the fact that all 35 guys on the roster would likely like the university once the announcement was made. Assuming all 35 guys paid $20k, minus the 8 schollys they were funding, the university lost $540K in revenue when those guys left. If the $700k was just what it cost for field, coaches, travel, etc, then the university actually only saved $160k net by cutting the program in the first place.

Couple that with the fact that they will have the chance to play right away and getting a decent group of kids shouldn't be all that hard.
Playing in a minor league stadium does not guarantee a big draw. Son played for a D2 university that used the local minor league stadium. The highest attendance didn't break 200 and the stadium easily sat 6,000. And this was a winning program - has won their conference 6 of the last 7 years.

Didn't mean attendance, Heck, baseball attendance at a lot of MAC games isn't much better than that...especially if weather is an issue. I meant the facility from the player standpoint. A couple of the MAC schools have stadiums that as I said, aren't much better than HS fields. If everything is equal, I think the lure of playing in a facility like that would be a big factor in a kid's decision.
Okay - yes, from that perspective, it will have a tendency to attract some student-athletes that might not otherwise consider that college.
