Actually I am a little sad and jealous of you other moms. My youngest ended his jr. high baseball season with their second loss in a tournament last Friday. We really thought we had the first game won, but the umpire wasn't very consistent at the plate(honestly the third strike to end the game and give us the win was called a ball pull_hair). The coach also said he made a bad decision in not sending my son on home to score after a well-hit ball. Oh well, spilt milk and life goes on. Now my son has to wait until summer and he moves up to play with the high school. The varsity coach has already told him he will be the starting varsity catcher beginning this summer.
So moms enjoy watching your boys play. Good luck to your teams as playoffs begin. Our high school team begins their district play next Thursday. We will be there to cheer them on and I will be in the dugout taking pictures.

I know the feeling. Both of my boys seasons are over. My oldest one can't start summer practice until after East/West Seniors showcase, and my youngest is over on the football field lifting weights and working out with the football team for spring training. I was so shocked they wanted him to play football, cause up until about 6 months ago, he was barely 100 lbs soaking wet and has never played football!! :-)

The baseball coaches assured me it was mainly for conditioning for baseball season, and the easiest way to keep him in the weight room and running without violating AHSAA rules.

So anyway, I actually have to work 8-5 until summer games start. This has been a LONG day!!

I'm headed to the field in about an hour...will be my son's last high school game.

He's starting on the mound and I pray for angels in the outfield..and in the infield.

I want his last high school experience to be one filled with good things...

Our team missed the playoffs...so...

It seems only fitting...that his first high school experience was to play on varsity as a freshman 4 years ago that it ends with him on the mound.

I want this game to be fun for him...and the other seniors. Smile
thank you baseballmom...

well we lost...BUT...

BK did have a great night on a personal note...

threw a 3 hitter...struck out 8...pitched a complete game...

(too many errors..fielding..throwing..and we didn't hit)

AND...after the game was over he shook hands with his 2 coaches ....

and rode home with dad and mom...we laughed, talked of the memories of these last few years...discussed the fun he's had on summer teams...

and ended our ride talking about his fishing trip this next weekend...

little boys do grow up... Smile
Sorry to hear about BK's loss. I remember my oldest son's last game. The team had made it to regionals and we were fighting to stay in the playoffs. Nothing seemed to go right. Our starting pitcher was hurting and every hit ball was right to the defense. I have a picture of my oldest watching the last out of the game. Such a far away look.
In Oklahoma the baseball season begins around the first of March and ends with state playoffs in May.
Texas2004,

WOW...you handled the "last high school game" like a pro! With all of the pressure and expectations that came along with being a locally known "college-bound" highschool ballplayer, I remember I was a bit relieved to see the whole high school season come to a conclusion. Moving on the bigger and better things you know! BK has so much to look forward to....so do you!

As the mom of a college freshman, I am now thinking "Wow, high school seemed so long ago!" Now I am wondering how in the world a college baseball season can pass by so quickly...and my son is sitting the bench most of the time! lol. I can only imagine how fast it will fly when he is actually playing! I'm just trying to enjoy everything as it happens because we all know how quick it goes by.
It's been forever since I've posted, but I've checked in quite a bit. I've been filling in at the office for a coworker in addition to my regular schedule, baseball season, 2 daughters in club ball, etc, etc. pull_hairMy son also takes the mound for the last time in high school this weekend. We are out of the playoffs and it will be our last game. It's been a great season and select ball will be starting up soon. I'm going to miss all my buddies that I sit with at the games. I'm normally a rather reserved person, but a little demon gets in me at baseball games and forces me to yell and jump up and down laugh(at the good and the bad!!!)
Ukillingme...thanks for your kind words...

Infieldmom...yesterday was fun still (some) ..because I could tell BK's curve and change were working...and even his 2 seam which cuts in and down...was too pretty... BK told me..."well, if the umpire would keep his eyes open ....he'd see how my ball breaks."...we just laughed...

luvbb...yes, I do know what you mean...with our son the only baseball player headed on to college...seams he was always being watched more than others...some wanted him to do well..and then a few who did not...made me nervous for him.

amom? Oh where have you been? How's your Brandon? Did he sign? what's new with his pursuits? Glad to see you on here!

Pam
Tomorrow will be my son's last high school game. Hard to believe it is over. His team made the play offs and the first game is tomorrow. He will pitch it and then thats it. He will be having surgery on tuesday. He has been treated for kidney stones since dec., last week we found out he doesn't have kidney stones. The urologist order a test called an IVP, they past dye through his body to see the flow. By doing this they discovered a malformation in the tube that goes from his left kidney to his bladder. It has to be corrected through surgery. He asked the dr. if he could play in one more game and the Dr. agreed. If his team wins tomorrow they will have to go on without him. This is very hard on him, never thought his season would end this way. The dr. told us this surgery has an 85% success rate. I pray he is in that 85%. I know in my heart he will be fine. He is just upset about it all. He is a true team player and feels like he is letting his team down, even though he knows it is out of his controll. He is also very disappointed that he will not be able to go on his sr. trip.
Thank you Pam, just knowing I have this web site to come on helps. Here I am able to talk to people who understand how important the game of baseball is to my son. I know the next couple of weeks will be very emotional for me. He will have his surgery on the 4th, turn 18 on the 7th and graduate on the 14th. I may cry myself into dehydration. I better drink alot, wonder if wine would work lol.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I know that no matter how the game today turns out it is going to be so hard. My son's high school baseball experience has been great. His team has made the play-offs every year. He was blessed with a great coach who has become like family. Thanks again for all the kind words.
Denise, I hope everything goes well for your son. The last ballgame can be so tough but your son's situation will make it harder. I agree about getting those pictures. My oldest graduated in 2002 and I have some priceless photos from the last game and the dinner afterward. Be sure to get photos of him with his coaches.
Let us know how everything goes. Our prayers are with you.
I am glad to have found this thread.

Last year, about this time, I was sad to have seen my son's last H.S. game. I really seem to get the blues when a season comes to an end, and I really struggled with in last year.

Then, this past Saturday, I watched his last JUCO game of this season. Same crummy feeling inside. So, I've been stopping by the H.S. to watch THEIR final games of the season and trying to just wind it down.

My son moves on into the next part of life with a lot more ease that I seem to.

He's the youngest, and maybe it's intensified because of that. Someone please tell me that's all it is and that I'm not nuts!
My son's season ended last week with a first round state playoff loss, it was really disappointing. Baseball season ended Thursday and his first football practice was yesterday so that will help. On the bright side, the coach announced the All-District Team on the ride home and my son (sophomore) made the 1st team. He was real excited and I am very proud of him, he worked so hard.

Denise,

I have said a prayer for your son and for you, I know your heart aches for him.
I had noticed the dates on the older posts when I did a search for the topic "season ends" or something to that effect.

I notice now that the respondents sending prayers to Denise may not have noticed the time that had elapsed between InField Mom's post on 4/30/04 and MINE on May 1, 2007.

I am sorry for any confusion to other, subsequent posters. to have caused confusion ...

But wait! I just now went back through the posts again and the dates show but not the year! Where did it the year go? It was visible just a moment ago when I logged in?

Wow. This IS confusing. Is it matter of the entire date showing unless you are logged in, when only the day, minus year displays?
ktcosmos,...you are indeed not alone and you are indeed not nuts. You are a Mom.
Havent gone through this with baseball son #2, but have with my oldest ( almost 19 ). Watched his last Varsity football game, play by play as if it was in slow motion. Watched the clock tick away,...5-4-3-2,..one last minute of HS football and that would be it.
Got the same kind of sickening stomach feeling as you. Stood in the crowd wearing his # on my shirt with tears streaming down my face. This was it. Flashbacks of the first day he tried out for the team,...the first stitches, first tackle, the first everything flashed through my mind so vivedly, as if they had happened yesterday.

I bet you can relate. I can see myself walking where you are walking now ktcostmos. Its all very familiar.

I dont think it really matters if the thread is dated from 2004 or to present day 2007.
It all seems relevant and timeless.

it will always be special.

shortstopmom,

awwwwwwww..... that's a very touching post.

I know every parent watches their children's performances (acting, singing, band, orchestra, sports, art, work, volunteerism, you name it) with growing pride and that every one of us has that day when we think we're seeing that particular aspect of that child on display for the last time.

With five kids (and the older two parents themselves now), I know there's so much more ahead in life for our family, but that tearful moment of watching from the stands that you describe is one of those memories we will probably take to our graves.

Hats off to all of us moms. I'm handing you a virtual hanky as the season comes to an end.
I'm so glad I found this post Smile. I was feeling very down, Son gave up his fall sport to concentrate even more on baseball. Now his pitching coach wants him to take off the next two fall ball tournaments to heal & rest. I am glad they are giving him healing time but I am sad that out of 4 fall tournaments he will only be able to play in 2 & not until Oct. Now we just get to do rehab excercises. Thank heavens it's middle school ball.
