If he is verbally committed, I would think you wouldn't need any tryouts, showcases, etc, unless you have sights on MLB or worried that school would overcommit or not come through with letter or intent. Perhaps your son is still looking for a better (maybe dream) school??

I know of quite a few verbally committed players who continue to do high profile tournaments, tryouts for USA or Area Code teams, etc., sometimes at considerable expense to the families.  I can't say I know exactly why, but I assume they want play the most challenging ball they can, and also want to stay in recruiters' eyes just in case things don't work out.

Wouldn't you assume they're looking at the draft? I'm almost certain that every player who makes PG All American or AC Games is committed -- probably close to 100% to D1.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. My son was invited to the AC Tryouts as well and he attended. However, he did not make the cut. He has receive these UA invites for the last few years and has never attended. Felt like it was just another money maker and I really do not need to pay someone to tell me my son is special, I know he is. Although, the UA Championship Games in Chicago looks legit and from what I have seen this draws some of the best players in the country. Not sure though if he could attend next summer anyway, since he will have already graduated from HS. At this point, I do not think we will be attending the UA Baseball Factory Tryouts. Thank again.....

My son thought it was a great honor the first half dozen invites or so. They seem to get the  jump on the other camps which started coming a year or so later. Seems like once your email goes on the PG site you're flooded with invites. I made a file special for them labeled "ADS" and save them for the laugh...to see how many we actually get a year. Should be in the hundreds, right? LOL! Ads, that's all they are. Now we know. Side note, I actually took my son to a Baseball Factory "Showcase" and they were okay, but I wasn't too happy when they didn't let the boys warm up for longer than 5 minutes and then brought out the radar gun. My son tore his UCL! grrrrrrrrr. True story.

"No invite for my 2018. Isn't he...<gulp>... special?"

Yes he is special, just don't you worry!  LOL!

I took my 2018 son to a showcase at a D2 university that is luckily just a 15 minute country drive away from my house. I thought the same thing, he's so special he's going to stand right out! HA! Everybody there was special. It was like someone held an event for just the special kids! There were special throwers, and batters, and fielders, and even some special catchers that were super special shouters. It was more special than I could take. Every special thing that happened (about every 25 seconds) made me gulp a little harder. It was like a staring contest to see who would blink first. So few errors. I had to laugh when my son got into the car and he said "Dang, there were a lot of really good players there today!". Good thing he didn't blink, but that probably only made him just about equal to all the others there. I guess in this day and age of participation trophies we all still get to call our kids special, right???

Agree, TPM. What a great post!

It elicited quite a chuckle, but also conveyed the truth of the matter.

Baseballparent23, wait until your 2018 shares a locker room with approximately 35 other college teammates...all of whom are VERY SPECIAL, of course! That tends to create some very special competition.

...and it'll be here before you know it.

Last, but not least: Welcome to the High School Baseball Web! Glad you've found us...and keep posting!
