I know exit speed is the speed of the ball leaving the bat...and Bat speed at impact is the speed of the bat but are those things at that moment the same thing? In other words, if a questionnaire asks for exit speed, is it accurate to put down the "bat speed at impact" number? just wondering.

Not the same but theoretically for a teed up ball they should be close.

I dont feel it is the same but it depends...I've seen on the PG website where it is very similar (within 2-3 MPH +/-) sometimes and at other times can be different by a larger amount (20-30)...I think it has something to do with body weight/mass at contact but who knows.
Ok, thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it!
Well... umm... ball speed at impact is zero.
If they ask for exit speed, why would you put bat speed? (Now, if that's the only number you have, then sure put bat speed and write 'bat speed' in red letters or something.)
A MLB bat speed of say 85 mph may generate an exit speed of approx 100-115 mph. So, they are not the same.
