I dont feel it is the same but it depends...I've seen on the PG website where it is very similar (within 2-3 MPH +/-) sometimes and at other times can be different by a larger amount (20-30)...I think it has something to do with body weight/mass at contact but who knows.

No the two things are not the same thing.  Bat speed has a profound influence on exit velocity however.  But the other key component is squaring it up.  This is why a lot of showcases etc. use the tee.  Gives best chance of squaring up.  Generally if you square it up the exit velocity is about 15% faster than bat speed.  Exit velocity is much easier to gun for the average guy.
