I was watching a preseason show on a major conference  team …

Your team went .358 overall last year. You were .167 in conference. You’ve never won your conference. You’ve never been to Omaha. You almost got there once (lost super series 2-1) when your team got hot late in the season behind two current MLB pitchers. Last year’s team ERA was 7.25.

Is it realistic to talk the first day of outdoor practice for the coach to talk about the championship game in Omaha?

As a player I would be thinking about winning game one. Then, game two. The focus would be on being better than last year and where it takes us.

No. The players are smart and old enough to know it's not happening as well.

Coaches who aren't realistic about their team lose the locker room because they know he's not being straight with them. They don't know what to believe.

A realistic goal should be to take care of business out of conference and keep the momentum rolling for when conf play starts
