Thanks, Woodrow. Not to get testy but let's go over some facts, people.

Guadalupe peak's base is about 4,000 feet. It rises to 8,749. That's a difference of 4,749. Heck, there's a 4,900 foot mountain just a few miles from here.

Mt. Rainier starts at about 500 feet above sea level. And rises to 14,410. Yes, it is the most massive mountain in the lower 48. By far. Put another way, you could put about 13 Guadalupe peaks inside Mt. Rainier.

Sorry Texas. Not everything is bigger in the Lone Star State. Eek

Play baseball: Going down the mountain is always worse. Did Woody have a solid excuse for the leaking brakeline?

And this is very nearly the same view of Mt. Shasta that I had for three years out my office window in Klamath Falls,OR. I wasn't in the office very often, but when I was in I really enjoyed the view. And I'm with you EH...I took all of these magnificent peaks of the Cascades for granted!

How about these EH? "It HASTA be SHASTA!"...no pop top on these guys back then.

Remember? Boy do I ever Bum! So many to choose from...so many to pull!

SEVEN DIFFERENT ZIP TOPS FROM 1962-64

Top Row: Left to Right
1. First can in early 62 version.
2. Mid 62 added red letter Instructions (Altes) Notice how the tab had pulled free of the opening.
3. Late 62 Opening instructions (lift tab & pull) Notice the sharp edges on the tab on this version.

Second Row: Left to Right:
4. Early 63, rounded end of tab.
5. Added smile beads around opening. mid 63.
6. (late 63) Rounded off all edges on tab due to more cut finger complaints.

Bottom Can
7. A combination of an old & new zip, it has a late 1963 pull tab on a 1962 top. Even the can companies couldn't always keep up with all the improvements.

Dates are estimates...and if I remember correctly back then they were also hard to get! Wink

Judging by that beautiful, snowy, and mountainous terrain that you looked out at as a kid my assumption is you were raised as a mountain goat...no kidding!

Did I ever tell you how much it rained constantly in Tillamook as I grew up there? It rained hard a good part of the year. Lots and lots of water. I would like to share with you the view from my window...

I still put them in the can from time to time. Those ring things are still around some places...

Please, the young'ns need to see the groovy way we used to live back in the day, classy, I say, real classy.

This was a real tough assignment Ms. Baseball Lover! Fortunately my friend, the talented and resourcful infidel, was able to come to my assistance with some very respectable photos gleaned from his extensive research on this subject...a subject I'm sure that he has no personal knowledge or experience with...ever! I just don't know where he comes up with this stuff. I've been keeping close tab on him...in fact I've kept all of his tabs...

I shouldn't be talking about him...I'm sure his ears are ringing!

I must admit iheartbb that I'm no ...

But I've got to handbag it to you...

...you parceled out a tough task The way you laid it all out to me...it made me want to just grab a chair and sit down awhile...

Yup...when it comes to giving orders you can really belt it out!

Well it's time...this one is done...it's curtain time!

But before I go may I offer you a drink iheartbb?

Here ya' go barkeep...this should cover it...keep the change.
