Watched all 3 of the Stanford/Fullerton games. Scores were 2-1(winning run in the bottom of the 9th), 6-5 in 10 and 6-3 so it isn't like Fullerton was not competitive. One difference is Stanford used 6 freshman and each played extremely well and was very productive. The lefty, Jeremy Bleich, pitched in relief on Friday and Sunday. Based on those 2 appearances, there are going to be a lot of hitters besides Fullerton who have trouble. He looked terrific. If the Stanford freshman perform at that level all year, they are a vastly improved team from last year.
One major item that I noticed was Fullerton only used one lefty pitcher in the 3 games. Think they have 6-7 lefty hitters. I wondered how much BP they have had against lefthanders because when it was lefty/lefty, the Stanford pitchers dominated the Fullerton hitters.
The other difference is Michael Taylor of Stanford. Like a totally different player from last year. He is confident/aggressive/big/strong/fast. Last year he was just big/strong/fast. He could have a monster year and make everyone else in the lineup that much better. If he continues to improve as much as he has in the last 52 weeks, it looks like he could be playing a different game than everyone else on the field. Fullerton is very good and very deep and for the first games of the season, this was pretty high quality baseball from both squads.
Can't explain Texas or Fullerton, but you can add the USC Trojans to those stumbling out of the starting gate.

Swept in three games by Long Beach State. The Trjoans started the season ranked in the top 20 and picked to come in second behind Oregon St. in the Pac-10. Now nowhere to be found in the rankings, but it's a loooooooong season.
