Jason Becker's Preseason Top 25 - 5A & 4A

houston coach,
why would you rip the only real publication that high school baseball has, if you truly are a coach you should be promoting this publication.

since you know so much about the whole state why dont you give us your top 25.

it amazes me that when someone steps out front and tries to promote our sport we have these goobers trying to look at any negative they can to discredit someone.

Jason Becker has covered high school baseball for at least 8 years and he does a very good job at it. He can be seen all over the state in the spring and summer. He knows his stuff.

what got you so upset houston coach????

I think he does a decent job. can't agree with all the selections, but unless you publish your own mag this is what you get.

What tls is referring to is the lists submitted by head coaches to Becker who runs them in the magazine. Says nothing about Becker's credibility. Not sure of your agenda here, but uninformed cheap shots don't make you look very credible.

And tls, stop whining about who's listed in the magazine. Why would a coach give a **** what happens in "select" ball? If the kid gets better in the summer (and most of them do if they're playing for quality teams), great. It should show up in the offseason and spring workouts. Beat out the kid in front of you and your name will be in print somewhere. You don't get to start because of summer league stats.

they want to complain about anything that people will listen to.

If you like the rankings then work hard to stay there, if you are unhappy then get to work changing them.

high school baseball is rising in this state and people like Jason Becker is the reason why it has become so popular in the past 7-8 years.

Jason Becker only knows what the coaches have told him - It is a money maker for him because of all the fools that will pay for his online and magazine. Pure and Simple - Period ! Seems to me HS baseball has always been pretty popular - it is just in the last 7-8 years parents have purchased their way on to select teams or created one for Johnny to play on and now those same parents are on websites touting their kids or their buddies kids. Do people really think what Jason Becker writes holds water with any College ??

I PERSONALLY HAVE SEEN jASON BECKER AT MANY VENUES IN THE SUMMER AND THE SPRING WATCHING GAMES. HE OCCASIONALLY HAS TO RELY ON SCOUTS AND COACHES TO GET A FULL REPORT ON A KID.

I GUESS THOSE PEOPLE THAT BUY DAVE CAMPBELLS MAGAZINE ARE FOOLS AS WELL.

NOBODY SAID THE COLLEGES LOOK AT THE INFO ALTHOUGH I WOULD VENTURE TO SAY THAT SOME PROBABLY DO.

I'm curious, how come anytime someone doesn't "like" something they always bring up.."it's just a money maker"? I heard this about the "scout league". I've heard it about this publication....I don't get that. Everyone on this board does something for money, I have never heard Jason Becker say anything about his publication being used by colleges to get kids recruited. Just read or don't read and enjoy...seems kind of simple to me.

How did you get a magazine if they dont come out until later on?????

They were distributed to the coaches at the recent THSBCA annual meetings in Waco.

I'm glad to see the preseason polls have stirred up some conversation about high school baseball. That is exactly why I publish my magazine and my website - because I love this game, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the coaches, the players, and the parents who make it go, and I want to do anything I can to promote it.

Expo37 hit the nail right on the head concerning all preseason polls, including mine - Some of the teams listed will end up higher, some listed will end up lower and some not listed will end up on the final list. It's the nature of the beast.

The purpose of the polls is to get people talking, get people excited about the upcoming high school baseball season. If taking heat from those who feel like they know it all is the only backlash, then it's worth it.

And just to clarify, since some posters seem to think I'm getting rich doing what I do: You're SORELY mistaken. I've continued to publish about 6-7 years longer than I reasonably should have because I love doing what I do, and I love the game.

Thanks for clearing this up Mr Becker. And I agree with you about not listing us in the top 25 because we just got lucky last year and there's no way we can get that lucky again this year with the same players. Keep up the good work!

For anyone to imply that you are getting rich doing what you do is ridiculous.

Get a grip and toss out your own Top 25 if you don't like what you see....

This might deserve it's own thread... however, it can also fit here as a "compare & contrast" option.

The Houston 5A Baseball website released it's list of top 25 Texas 5A baseball teams Thursday. It had a copyright symbol with it, so rather than cut & paste, I'll add the link for folks to follow.

There are more than a couplwe differences between the Mr. Beckers list and Houston 5A's.... And that's why we play the games.

Boy isn't that the truth!! We've (H5AB) been online for about 10 years and I think I've broke even once! Show me someone who is getting rich at this and It will be the first I've seen. On another note, WOW! I thought I was the only one who caught this much heat for their polls???

11's dad ya'll are also #26 on the Houston 5A state top 25 list. Hope ya'll prove them both wrong.

Thanks Beast, I think we started lower than #26 last year and it worked out ok.

Under the radar isn't bad 11sdad. We have 2 teams in our 9-4A state ranked. I like our chances to go even further than we did in football, and we aren't one of the 2!

Bring It I think you are right, you guys will probably go pretty far in District 9=4A

We really enjoyed being the under dogs last year. So no one should throw their good pitchers against us since our hitters can't hit and everyone knows our pitchers can't pitch.

Paw - I question the knowledge of pitching the Goldberg's have when it comes to Collikar Son on the bump. Of course, if Goldberg is hitting, the ball will be sailing. No wonder you like him up there.
