Thanks so much to this forum - we have learned so much!   Most importantly - ask questions ahead of time!

We brought my son to one camp and found out that day he would receive only a verbal evaluation, unless, of course, we spent more money.  At another camp which listed many schools being "represented", we saw only a few people evaluating players.  We thought that "represented" meant that the coaches/asst coaches would be there - they were not. Supposedly scouts for those schools were there but we have no way to confirm that.  We are still hoping to receive at least a written evaluation.  We should have contacted the schools we were interested in to confirm they would be at this camp or at least have a legitimate representative.

Though the camps didn't meet our expectations, my son had a good work out at both, got a sense of  how these camps/showcases work (long days!),  and saw how his skills compared to others his age who are also looking to play baseball in college.  And we parents now know to do a better job  doing our homework on camps before spending the money!

gettin'there - Welcome to the hsbaseballweb!  You've begun a journey that will have many ups and downs...many great times...many frustrating times.  Try your best to 'smell the roses' along the way as it will all go by too darn fast!

You've also joined the greatest community I know of on the planet for getting good advice and information from others in the same boat and those that went through this before you.  Ask all the questions you want...you will get differing responses...ones that you will have to sift through.  But have no doubt, you will be getting responses and experiences from a wide swath of baseball people.

From the owner of the nation's best known HS showcase and scouting company to the parents of D3 college players.  From the originator of the Area Code games to parents of college coaches to players who just finished college careers.  From parents of other HS players wondering the same things as you to parents of minor league and major league ballplayers.

We've got it all here.  Enjoy your son's journey and use the rest of us all you can to navigate some of the harder steps.

In short, good luck and ask away.

Welcome!

The best part of your post is that although you may have been mislead, you realize now that you have to ask a lot of questions first and that you did come away with something to help you in the future. You used it as a learning experience, that's what we are talking about!!!!

Glad to see that you didn't come complaining that you got ripped off!

Thank YOU!!!!!
