Lamar had the 2nd game in hand with a 4 to 1 lead going into the 5th and then helped NS with some errors leading to a defeat. Lamar goes into bracket play as the 2 seed from the D bracket. We play at Marcus tomorrow at 12ish.

Was Tyler Mapes pitching with a cast on his non-throwing hand?

The LP in this game was Reid Davis, who pitched brilliantly after being called up from the JV the day before. In his first-ever varsity game, Davis struck out eight Martin batters and did not issue a walk over a complete seven innings. He also allowed just three hits, and his only mistake was leaving a pitch up in the zone to Imhoff for a solo HR.
Yeah, I wish we had been able to meet last night. Maybe down the road somewhere we'll get the opportunity again.

Hill pitched a great game. The Hawks bats were miserable - worst I've ever seen them - but then, I think Hill had A LOT to do with that. Lots of disgusted and disappointed hitters after the game last night. On the plus side, it appears Hebron may have found a starting pitcher few anticipated would even be on varsity this year.
That's why they play these tournament, eh? I know everyone wants to win --- but if one loss (or tie) can uncover a kid or kids that can help during the district season, then it has to be considered a positive experience.

Unfortunately for some kids, the nature of the district season and its associated pressures make the tournaments their only "real-time" tryout opportunities. If things don't go good, they will have to rely on practice and one-off chances to demostrate their ability to contribute.

Nice to see unexpected surprises.
2 Games today. First one against Plano East

Lamar 0 4 2
PE 1 3 1

WP: Jacob Brooks
LP: Caleb Bush He just pitched 4 innings the day before and 3 more wore him out.

Panter Dad I think you guys have a good team. I do have to question the the behavior of a few of the Plano East parents. I have heard a lot of belly aching at games but that was an extra special one. Those few parents should know by now that 9 times out of 10 the pitcher will get a strike called if he hits the catchers mit without any movement from the catcher especially when the balls are painting the black. That umpire also had to ump while both teams were hitting and pitching. Your parents acted like he was only calling half an inning at a time. I think it was a well played game by both teams especially with exhausted pitching staffs.

Game 2 Lamar Vs. Hebron

Lamar 5 5 1
Hebron 7 6 1

WP: Anthony McNamara
LP: Patrick Muldoon
Sv: Jake Farley

Hawkman, you guys can flat out drive the ball. I do have to say your coach is an interesting guy. From the stands it appears that he enjoys the spotlight and he almost takes it away from the boys, which is where it should be. He was very over the top and if I were umping his butt would have been sitting on the bus in the parking lot. I am not saying he didn't have a gripe but when he started in on the home plate umpire about the field umpires eyes being able to turn opposite ways, I would have tossed him so fast. As far as your team goes, good luck to you guys. If you hit like today you will do well in district play.

Lamar Fan 08,
I guess we saved all our hits for you after getting no-hit about 17 hours earlier against Arlington Martin. Smile
Of the six Hawks hits today, five were doubles which is a great sign for us.

I can understand why someone might walk away with that opinion of Coach Stone, but I can honestly say he would never put himself above his players and goes out of his way to make this high school journey a memorable and fulfilling one for the boys. I actually hesitate to mention this as to not put off anyone, but Coach Stone is a deeply religious man and quite possibly the only coach who plays Christian music at the ballpark. Eek Those of you who have been to Hebron for a game, know this to be true. That doesn't make him perfect - the man likes to win - but he's as honest as they come, and he never wants to see his players slighted or wronged. I appreciate him fighting for his team, even if he does sometimes. . .come off the way you saw him today.

Good luck to you all on the season as well. Hawk son and Arnsberg play together in the summer so it was fun seeing them on the opposite side for a game.
Lamar Fan -- I respect your opinion and agree that once in a while there are a few that focus a little too much on the umps, but do not generally have a reputation as a complaining bunch and for the most part, we are well-behaved. I prefer to believe that the ump had an off-day today, which is fine....he was not a factor in the game. When my son is getting a big zone, I just shake my head and hope it's fair for both sides. You're right -- the inconsistency is usually called both ways.

Lamar has some nice athletes and I know it hurts that Drew left. Good luck this season.

I wasn't there but, all I know about Coach Stone is that he is a stand-up guy with the usual focus being the players expect in a lose when he take the blame. OPen honest guy and this is coming from a District opponent's dad.
Panther Dad,

Not trying to make any judgements about your parents I just thought the same thing you said...They just couldn't let it go and I think it could have hurt your team. It was just an observation and opinion. Sorry, hope I didn't offend you. And I agree that our fan shouldn't have been yelling back in favor of the ump as well. Wasn't any better, I agree. And I really was just stating an opinion of what I saw from the Hebron coach. I don't know if you were there but Coach Stone was very lively to put in nicely...

Hawkman, hope I didn't offend you either with my comment. It was an observation that I just put out there. It is the first time I have seen the Hebron Hawks in action so it was my first impression of him.

After all this is a message board where people leave observations and oponions...
Arl. Martin - 8
Lewisville - 2

WP - Stewart Person
LP - ?

Championship game:
Arl. Martin - 14
FM Marcus - 5

WP - Brian Ragira
LP - ?

For the tournament Martin scored 39 giving up 10 runs, Imhoff had 3 HR, Mike hill threw a no hitter and Griffin had 9 stolen bases in 4 games. Pitching has looked good and their hitting is coming around.

Lamar 08,
Hey, absolutely no offense taken at all. You should be able to share your observations with the community. That's what this is all about.

I just wanted to let the followers of this board know that, while not perfect, Steve Stone is a coach with a lot of depth and character. Can't say all of Hawk kid's coaches over the years have had those ingredients. I'm lucky my kids have had a chance to play for a guy who actually cares about them while in the program and after they leave.
