If you didn't play, you wouldn't be on the roster. As far as I know, players must attend tryouts every year ( Wink) . If you don't make it, you'd need a release to try out/play for another team. The release should be automatic (it's more like a courtesy), but some guys are goofy about it. It's not like you're a free agent, though. Do you wanna switch teams?

Coach Milburn would know for sure.

You must obtain a release for your base team if you voluntarily choose not to play for them (i.e. do not try out.) If you try out and do not make a team, or make the team and are cut, a release is not necessary.

The big thing to remember is that if you don't play for your base team, the next closest team geographically is the one for which you must try out or from whom you must get another release. If you desire to play for a team outside of your home area, the teams that are closer than the desired team must sign off on that.
Son has already played for the team a full season. I know little about Legion rules so excuse the ignorance on this topic. His team is made up of players from his Private School versus nearest geographically located kids. As I understand it, he would need a release from his team or attend his local public high school to play for the team nearest our home. I'm unclear how the private school factors in and why its ok for him to play for this team when its clearly not the nearest to our home. We've always played travel ball so I'm not up to speed on Legion yet. I was just curios if he would remain on this team's roster if he played travel ball next season instead.

From the sounds of it, your son played under 4.C. That makes him ineligible to transfer. He belongs to his original Legion team until the end of his Legion eligibility.
