1)  I know college leagues have been around for a  while, but when did high school leagues begin?

2) Leagues are beneficial for hitters to show their skill at jumping up to using wooden bats.  Is it as beneficial to pitchers?  It seems almost like a cheat for pitchers.

3) how reasonable are wooden bats pricewise compared to BBCOR?   Saw a guy break and expensive wooden bat last weekend.   (This is the place to demonstrate your knowledge of improvements in the manufacture of wooden bats).

4)  does your boy play in a wooden bat league this year?  Dislosure: mine does as a P.O.

I am that wretch.

Wood bat tournaments have been all the rage over last few years, American Legion went to wood 2-3 years ago. Both my sons (a senior and a freshman) will be playing Legion w/ wood. First time for younger guy. Just picked him up a Marucci wood this weekend. Both boys are hitters.

Wood will break So get ready to buy quite a few. I've spent a small fortune on wood bats over last 3 years.

My kid's Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 BBCOR was $75 new with shipping (off ebay), and luckily for me, he likes the feel of an Ash bat over Maple, so I was able to pick up a couple of 4-Packs of Louisville Slugger WBXA14P71NBK 34 MLB XX Prime Timber C271 Wood Baseball Bats from a reputable ebay seller for $159.99 shipped...

So for the last 2 years I spent: $160 x 2 = $320 + $75 = $395... on bats... (does not include $10 each for those Lizard Skin bat grip wraps he likes)...

And, I still have at least 3-4 new/unused in wrapper C271's left over... LOL!

My son played four summers and five falls of allwood bat baseball. There's a fall ball tournament organization (Bershire Baseball) that is all wood bat. He played Legion after senior year. His league was wood bat.

i got his bats for about $50. He typically broke two or three per year. Three wood bats were cheaper than the EXO he used in high school. He used them two years per bat.

It's been 4 years since my son has hit.  Back in HS over the last summer he played as a position guy, he broke 3 bats in 3 at bats.  Got tired of it and bought him this:

It lasted him the rest of the summer.  Says it is approved in short A season and rookie ball.  But, it is not legal in PG tournaments now.  I don't know why.  If the bat has a wood hitting surface, but composite handle to help with breakage, why wouldn't it be allowed?  Seems to me it would be the best of both worlds.  Hits like wood - because it is, but won't break as easily...

PG has several approved composite bats but they are all made by Rawlings, if I am not mistaken.

While y'all are down there, be sure that your son swings a whole bunch of different turning models so that he can get a better feel for what works for him, e.g., a C271 will be completely different than an I13. Take advantage of the large inventory of bats all over the place and find what works.

Will do - thanks!

Saw something somewhere where people can buy unfinished bats for next to nothing.

If you run across it again, shoot it my way please.

This may be the site to which he was referring.  I believe I got this link from HSBBWEB.

Pretty much all the common turns at $33 - $35 each for Ash.  Add $8 - $12 per bat to upgrade wood type.
