I was wondering since my dad isn't home much during the day in order for me to long toss, could I go in a batting cage a throw the balls like I'm throwing to someone about 300 ft. away and the ball would just hit the cage?
Forluvofthegame, Absolutely! I might add that if you will take a piece of surveyor’s ribbon about 4' long (1” wide colored plastic) and weave this into the netting making a circle, this will give you a target to throw to and you can accomplish the same as throwing to a person. A bucket of balls is needed to reduce your “retrieval” time. My son used to do a lot of this. Best of luck! Fungo
I'd also like to offer another suggestion for long toss that you can do at any field by yourself.
Here's what my son does since I read an article about Nolan Ryan's off season long toss work out. What he'd do is take a bucket of balls and dump them out at the pitcher's mound. He'd pick them up (the bending helps with leg strength) and throw all the balls into the backstop.
Pick up the balls and repeat the process at 2nd and then from center field.
My son does likewise, sonis, in his off-season. There is a little league field within walking distance (tho he doesn't walk with the bucket) and he throws there. But I will admit that he doesn't use their mound
