2013 loves this bat, and of course, has the 33.

Same here. Loves the feel. This bat stuff is getting out of hand. To ban a bat that has been approved and in use for a year when the season has already begun seems to cast doubt on the whole certification process and criteria.
I wonder if this will end up like the Rip-It Prototype from last year, which ended up getting re-certified after further testing?

I have to believe this will trickle down to HS, but who knows how quickly. Hopefully it doesn't spread to other sizes (though in HS I'd venture to guess that the 33" is by far the most common size), or to the Marucci Black.....
I've been hunting around on the web, and there is next to no other information that hasn't already been linked to here (the NCAA memo). I did see a message on an LSU Tiger message board indicating that it was an issue if excessive batted ball exit speeds on that particular bat (not sure that isn't just an obvious restatement / inference from what a Batted Ball Coefficient Of Restitution test failure would be, though, rather than any specifically new information).

With the Rip-It last year there was a complaint from a competitor who identified a few bats that didn't meet the standard, resulting in a decertification and re-certification process. Reading about that after the fact, they actually found only a few bats that were slightly over the permitted standard, and I think the only changes they had to make were to quality control - making sure that the few non-compliant bats they produce didn't make it to the marketplace. I am hopeful that this will be the case for the Marucci Cat-5, because I know a ton of kids bought that bat, expect to be able to use it, and can't afford to go out and buy another bat as a replacement.

Never a consideration by the powers that be.
Here is the info directly from Marucci's site. Unfortunately, I just purchased one for my son this past Friday scheduled to be delivered this coming Friday.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q: Will Marucci replace my 33×30 CAT52 BBCOR?
A: Yes. We stand behind our products and will replace your 33×30 CAT52 BBCOR with another Marucci bat.

Q: What are my options in replacing my bat?
A: You have four options to choose from:
1.Marucci will replace your 33″ Cat52 BBCOR with the newest 33″ Marucci BBCOR bat that will be available in March.
2.Marucci will replace your 33″ CAT52 BBCOR with a 34″ CAT52 BBCOR today.
3.You may upgrade to the 33″ Marucci Black today for $100.00.
4.You may choose to receive two (2) Professional-Cut Wood Bats.
A Professional-Cut wood bat is manufactured with pro-quality wood but did not meet the stringent Marucci standard for sending to a big leaguer. The bats are not model specific and will come in natural or black. Marucci will fill orders as supplies last and according to availability

Thanks very much for the information, parkee. I guess I'm pleased that they are trying to be proactive for the HS players and also provide some kind of replacement. The whole situation is very disappointing.
First, a little bit of new information, and some repeat links:

Here is a PDF of the actual NCAA memo that was sent out yesterday. Nothing new here, just looks more official than the previous links provided to the same info, and it is something you can print out and show to any skeptical parent of a player who purchased a 33" Cat5.

I'm also providing a link to the Marucci returns page. Again, most of this info has been posted here, but there is a little bit of new information, including Marucci's claim that it was a small sample of three bats that were found not to comply with the BBCOR standard (which sounds a lot like the Rip-It Prototype experience last year, which ultimately led to re-certification). They also say that they expect the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) to follow suit.

I really feel for those who bought this bat. Sounds like Marucci is committed to making it right, either with a replacement of a Cat5 in other sizes, a Marucci Black for $100 more, or if you are willing to wait until March, with a new 33" BBCOR bat that will be out soon. But still, a hassle.

It a good thing for the lawyers. I am allready hearing of some good cases. we have one where a hitter craked his wood bat and went to his bag and got his old BESER bat hit ball back to pitcher and hurt his arm. The pitcher sewing the batter and coaches, school, and bat builder. The batter is now sewing coaches and school.

It was posted today on the Texas Board that this bat has been de-certified by the NFHS.

Officially de-certified this morning here in FL. HS season already started here, so puts kids in a bind last minute.

We have a game tonight and several of our kids were using this particular model. Bats are a personal preference as to feel so they'll have to borrow a teammates bat and adjust on the fly.
I agree about it being a bummer. Son's HS team has 5 boys in starting lineup that use this bat, the other 4 use Easton. So guess what will be used until they either wait till March, trade up for the Marucci Black which will still take a few weeks I'm sure or buy New!

First tournament starts this Thursday! Good luck to all teams beginning their seasons this week.
For anyone interest, I just spoke with a customer service rep at Marucci (on hold less than 2 minutes).

We opted for the $100 upgrade to the black, and shipped the bat, paperwork, and check via UPS yesterday. The CSR said that they didn't want people to include payment . . . just to check the upgrade option. When the bat is received they will call and ask for payment and inquire about your preferred method of shipping.

She did take my name and number and they'll call me when my package arrives. She said they are processing the returns 7 days a week to turn them around as quickly as possible.

Still not ideal, but she was knowledgeable and quite helpful. We'll see . . .
We had our first game tonight in Florida since the ban. Six of our batters were using Marucci bats. My son happened to have a 34" and some opted to use his bat. Our best hitter said he didn't see much difference in the pop in the 33 vs. the 34. Marucci is a great company. It's too bad it was certified and then taken off the list.
I have already commented on another thread about the apparent banning of other bats that is pending next week. With the uncertainy of what would happen if the bats were all banned at one time, the NCAA is trying to figure out how to handle the situation. If you can at this point, try and hold off buying another bat at this time.
FWIW

Thu. 2/16 - son got 33" CAT 5
Fri. 2/17 - son used it, loved the feel, wish he had gotten 34"
Sat. 2/18 - NCAA banned 33", obvious that NFHS will follow suit

Mon. 2/20 - returned 33" via FedEx overnight
Tue. 2/21 - 33" received by Marucci
Wed. 2/22 - Called Marucci, minimal wait time, left message for return rep. He called back later that day said requested 34" replacement bat had been shipped that earlier that day via UPS ground
Mon. 2/27 - received 34" CAT 5, son happy that he ended up with 34" after all.

1 week turnaround with the following caveats:
a. I'm sure we were 1 of the first returns.
b. Returned via overnight.
c. Simply exchanged for a different size, no additional payment involved.

Good luck to the thousands of others that will have to endure the return process while in the midst of your season.
