The McKinney Marshals have announced their tryout schedule for their summer 2006 15-18U teams. Tryouts will be held at Richardson High School. RHS is located on Beltline Rd, west of I-75 Central Expressway. In the case of rain or cold weather call 214-551-9546.

The tryout schedule is as follows:

December 3
1pm 15U
330pm 16U

December 4
1pm 17-18U
330pm 17-18U

December 10
1pm 15U
330pm 16U

December 11
1pm 17-18U
330pm 17-18U

The cost to play for the Marshals is $1,025. This cost covers EVERYTHING except travel expenses. The Marshals will field 4 teams in 2006: 15, 16, and 2 18U's. Our teams play an estimated 40 games. We play in the Lone Star Baseball League and play in 4 showcase tournaments or invitationals with our postseason starting at the AABC state tournament which results in a 5 tournament min.

Don't let the name McKinney fool you. We have kids play for us from as far as Mesquite, Midlothian, Keller, and even the far west town of Lewisville. We are a true metroplex select program with proven success.

Our 15 year old team will be once again headed by Mark Ferrer (Former player at OCU) and Devon Mize (Former player at AC). Their team was 28-12 last summer and finished 3rd in the SS National Championships.

Our 16 year old team will be headed by "Evil" Dave Ostroff (Former player at Dartmouth) and Brian "BT" Thomas (Former player TAMU).Their team went 26-20 last summer and finished second at the AABC state tournament.

Our 17U team will be headed by Lance Alford (Former player at TWU). The 17U team went 25-15 last summer and finished 3rd at the AABC state tournament.

Our 18U team will be headed by Andy Postema (Former Orioles INF) and Rene Asprion (Reds Assoc. Scout). This team went 30-18 last summer and finished second at the AABC state tournament.

Our teams carry small rosters. We believe that you pay to play and that all the kids have to contribute for us to be successful. Our 15U team will carry 13 kids, 16U team to carry 14 kids, and 17 and 18 teams to carry 15-16 kids.

Please see our team's website at http://www.Theballfields.com (ballfields teams). If you have any questions, contact me through this site or through the site at the Ballfields.

I understand that these clubs are trying to get the jump to get the best players, but at whose expense?

I would venture to say, the kids expense.

What good is it to make a select team and then not get to play (hs ball or summer ball)because of an overuse injury.
I know that there is a balance in there somewhere, I just hope that some of these players parents know enough about their own child to make a sound decision on when to shut it down for a while.
Like I said, if that is ok with you and your player, go for it. I just don't want to see a player or parent cave in and have a panic attack when they see one of these tryouts posted and sacrifice some much needed down time in order to play summer ball.IMO

By the way, if they are good enough, it doesn't matter when they try out. They'll take them.
There has been some confusion on the original message as to when the 17's should come out. In the message it states that 18U's should come out at both times on the Sunday's. Just to clear things up, 17's should come at the earlier time unless you cannot make it, then the later time will be fine. Hope I made that clearer. I've been at the hospital the past 2 days and nights taking care of my bride and our newest addition. Smile
Thank you Doug. You are correct in saying that sleep has been something I've been doing without for a while now. The girls keep me going quite a bit and now the new addition will add to it. But I tell you what, he's got long arms, long fingers and already likes to move his left arm a lot. I'm thinking I can get him throwing in a few weeks and he should be able to make the tryouts. Wink

My son played for the Marshals this fall and if he makes the team will play for them this coming summer (he missed the tryout this weekend due to work (yes, he has a JOB!!!))

Let me answer the question by telling you a story. For the last few years, my son played for the Arlington Heat. Last year, as 16 YO's, they played up to 18U in a lot of tournaments. Thier first tournament up in OKC where they faced the Marshals 18 twice. They thumped them twice. Neither game was even close. My son gave up 2 home runs to one player in the course of one game.

While these older "men" were whoppin' up on the 16 year olds, I did not hear one laugh from the dugout. Not one boisterous comment. Not one guy rubbing it in. Class act.

The boys faced the Marshals later in the summer and lost to them in a pitching dual, 13-12. They learned to bring their A game every day.

When the Heat broke up at the end of the season, our coach highly recommended Shayne and the Marshals. Our old coach was Lance Alford's college roomate, and he's known both Shayne Currin and Rene Asprion for years. I've known Rene also since when he was with the Mustangs organization.

Lance was our coach this fall, and I tell ya, you haven't met a nicer guy. He has two twin toddlers at home and a new born baby, yet his wife lets him coach our boys, something that you can see he loves to do.

Will they be the best 17 YO team in the metroplex? Probably not, as I'm sure that DBat and Ingram's Tigers will be fighting for that title (neither of those teams are knocking on the door asking my son to play for them).

But if you are looking for a 1a type team, with quality coaching, great facilities, reasonable price, bad uniforms Big Grin and a system that will get your son seen, then I highly recommend them.

TimeToStepUp (if that is your real name), My son played w/ the Marshals 18U this past season. If you want to know about the coach(es), I don't think you would find better men than Andy Postema or Lance Alford (last year's coaches). I'm not sure who is coaching this year, but I can speak about them. As far as the level of talent, they may have not been the best, but they played well and beat some pretty good teams including Blackhawks 18, Oklahoma Travelers, Dallas Mustangs (Tadlock) and Lubbock Hubbers to name a few (oh yea, the Arlington Heat... Smile) Every 18 year old is playing college ball somewhere, be it D1, JC or NAIA. The Marshals run a top notch organization. If you have more specific questions, let me know.

Well run tryout this past weekend, coaches were more than approachable to both the players and parents (good to put faces to HSBB names, even though I am not so sure I wanted to be outed).

During what was a very cold Sunday and in a short amount of time the coaches made a very positive impact on the 3 players I took to the tryouts.

I could, but knowing both teams very well, I think they have my son's position filled with top notch kids.
