Channel 213 on DirecTv just went live at 6 PM Eastern...with what is being called the largest cable network launch in history. Looks pretty good, so far. Here is a link:

I "watched" that game on the radio. It points up a few differences to the world as it is now. Today, a World Series game wouldn't be scheduled for daytime on Monday. And if it were, I doubt that many grade schools would broadcast the game into every classroom. But mine did, even though we were in Oregon, without any tie to the New York teams.

Baseball truly was the National Pastime in the 50's.
I see people post that the wife won't be happy with this---rubbish--- you are in the house you aren't out in bar or a casino somewhere

As my wife says to her family about the weekend trips with team---"At least I know where he is and he is more concerned about the kids than himself so he won't get in trouble"
Channel # 269 on comcast here in NH.

Coolest thing was being upstairs while son was downstairs and turning on the channel and hearing it in stereo as he had it on too! He watched it all weekend, loved the old games they showed. Usually he has on fishing shows..lol

Watched the 46 WS which was basically a news reel they played in the theaters I'm guessing. Found it funny how they took stock pics of them swinging the bat or throwing a pitch and used that same stock footage to show the pitch and the hit..lol.

Watched a game from early 90's (I think) of Cubs and Pirates in April. Funny to see how skinny Bonds was then...lol.

Look how skinny all the players were back then !!!!
Enhancements aside, go back to the sixties and players had to work in the offseason to earn a living. I remember when Tom Yawkey turned the baseball world upside down by giving Carl Yastrzemski a three year, five hundred thousand dollar contract. Other owners wondered why sign a player for more than one year at a time.
