Got word saturday that Ringer1 son's team plays in Houston on Thursday. Ringer1 son's team played in the championship game last night in San Antonio (got second). Some people stayed the night and some people came home. For those people who came home...they probably got home around 2am or so. What I'm getting at is, our parents take off work last friday to drive to San Antonio for a 5:30 game, get home late last night, get a couple of hours of sleep before going into work on a monday to tell their boss they need to take off thursday and friday because their son has a tounament in Houston. Don't most bosses frown upon this? Can everyone afford it? I can't! I just don't understand why my son's team is sent to Houston to play when there are two teams in the Dallas BBI bracket that have byes, two teams in the Dallas Lone Star bracket that have byes, and one team in the Fort Worth Super Eight bracket that has a bye. Do the people putting together the brackets actually think about this? Do they think about a minimum of:
$160 Hotel
$200 Gas
$50 Food
$15-30 on Misc items
---------------------
$440 Not to mention the money lost for time off work that we miss because people have to drive to HOUSTON when there are spots here in DALLAS for teams to play.

As you can tell I am pretty PO'ed at this situation. And it is not like I am new to the select baseball world. Ringer1 son has played select since he was nine. I just don't see the thinking in sending Dallas teams to Houston when there are spots here for them to play. Are we paying our coaches and tournament directors so much money that they feel we are all rich... because I am not. I didn't even make the trip to San Antonio. Before this weekend I could count on one hand how many of my son's games I've missed. But that's over and I'm cool with that.
All I'm trying to say is there is something wrong with the way the brackets are worked. I know my son's team did not do well in league ball but they held their in tournaments. The cream will always rise to the top whether you are playing in Houston or Dallas. So KEEP US HERE!!!

Now, I gotta get back to work so I can pay my coach and tournament directors salaries.
I believe it's where you place in your league. You might be right though. I wouldn't think that our coach would be that uncaring about our pocket books without consulting the parents first.

I hardly ever let things in the baseball world get to me like they used to when we first started but I am REALLY hot about this.

Ringer - AABC Texas allots each league a specific number of state tournament berths based upon number of teams in a league. Which tournament that those berths are to is decided by location and number of teams needed for each State Tournament. It is my understanding that AABC tries not to send more than two teams from a league to a State Tournament.

For example, BBI had ten state tournament berths in the CM Division. Two berths to five state tournaments but none to either of the two Houston State Tournaments. Then the teams chose which tournament they would attend based upon league finish. The league champion got first choice, runner up got second choice and so on until all of the berths were filled. The last team to choose simply gets whatever berth is left.

This may have been the case in your instance. The Houston berth was likely the least appealing choice due to travel involved and may have been the only spot left for your team.

Have been in that same situation before and feel for you. Best of luck to your team.

DBAT 18 GM,

But still look at all the first round byes in the Dallas area. Give the Houston area more berths and let the Dallas teams fill up the byes here in Dallas. You're still going to have one winner in Dallas and one winner in Houston. I know there are enough teams in Houston's league to take up those spots.

I don't believe in first round byes anyway. The teams with the weaker pitching staffs only get weaker in that kind of format. But that's another thread.
