Hello,
I am a parent of two baseball loving sons, ages 15 and 12. My 15 year old (a rising sophmore) is very serious about baseball and hopes to play college baseball someday.
We are moving from Rochester, NY to Baltimore, MD on August 16th, and I am hoping to be able to replicate some of what my son has been doing in Rochester in Baltimore.
Any leads, guidance, suggestions would be gratefully embraced as we barely know where to begin.
Here's what I am hoping to find:
1. A private hitting coach for weekly hitting instruction year around.
2. Off-season catcher's camp - My son's primary position is catcher, and he has attended camps every winter at the University of Rochester and our local community college. I was hoping to find something similar in Maryland.
3. Fall ball team - It may be too late for this one, but I'd love to find a fall ball team for my son to participate on. He turns 16 on 4/3 - - so I think he is still 15U. His primary position is catcher, but he's also a very strong outfielder with lots of speed. He can play third base well also.
4. Summer travel team. Honestly, I don't think he will make a super competitive regional travel team yet because of his size. He's only about 5'4" right now. He did play varsity baseball at his small high school so he has experience playing with much bigger/older boys, and he had lots of playing time, but realistically, I think we would need a team that is still focused on development.
Anything else in terms of off-season playing or development opportunities would be wonderful.
Realistically, my son's greatest strengths are speed(3.63 home to first, 7.34 for 60 yard dash), a great baseball head and heart, and a good arm. He's definitely strong on defense . . .offense is more of an issue.
His biggest weakness is that he doesn't hit for power at all. He's a contact hitter who walks a lot and beats out a lot of ground balls.
Thanks so much in advance for any guidance you can provide.
